None A brief statement of committee organization, subcommittees, research activities, etc.: The Committee is formally organized and conducts business using Robert's Rules of Order. One subcommittee to study and make a recommendation re— garding the service of term-employed faculty on Faculty Senate committees was formed by members: B. Hursey, A. Kares and J. Sadler. VII. List of committee accomplishments including recommendations made to agencies other than the Faculty Senate. (a) Recommended to the Faculty Senate that the membership on the two Faculty Senate Committees and on the Faculty Senate Academic Committees be open to faculty eligible to serve on the ECU Faculty Senate. The FGC's recommednation was amended to allow only faculty holding professional rank (instructor, assistant and associate professor and professor) to serve on these committees. See Facualty Senate minutes February 25, 1986, item IV. A. Resolution 86-4, (b) Recommended to the Faculty Senate that the chairperson of each committee should be a full-time teaching member of the faculty, elected by the committee. Approved by Faculty Senate. (c) FGC considered a request to consider sexual ratios for the composition of committees. The FGC elected to make no recommendation to the Faculty Senate on this issue. (d) FGC determined that weights of teaching, research/creative activity and service must be stated in unit codes, and it is not sufficient for the code to refer to a departmental handbook for weight information. (e) Recommended to the Committee on Committees that a standing committee by created to handle unit codes. No action as yet. (£) Recommended to the Faculty Senate - clarification and amplification of the definition of voting faculty. Approved as Resolution 86-18. & (g) Recommended to the Faculty Senate amendments to the History Code. Approved as Resolution 86-16. (h) Recommended to the Faculty Senate amendments to the Psychlogy Code. Approved as Resolution 86-17. VIII. Citation of the numbers of Senate resolutions that originated with the committee: 86-4 Amended motion on committee membership. 86-16 History Code and its amendments. 86-17 Psychology code and its amendments. 86-18 Clarification and amplification of voting faculty member. IX. Proposals and/or business to be carried over to next year: (a) Codes which need to be revised to conform to Appendix C are: Allied Health, Education, Medicine, and Technology. (b) Code amendments submitted to the FGC, but not completed are: Physics, School of Nursing, Sociology, Economics. (c) Recommendation to the Committee on Committees to create a new standing committee to ev amendments to unit codes. (d) Topics suggested for future consideration: 1. At the present time units use various evaluation criteria and weights under teaching, research/creative activity, service, and patient care. The question of the desirability of standardization of evaluation criteria was mentioned in the 1984/85 FGC Annual Report. 2. Consideration of requiring permanent tenure for membership on all appellate committees. 3. Consideration of appropriate redress for faculty who claim denial of procedural due process quaranteed by unit codes. X.
