Dear Professor Simon:

I have carefully reviewed the Code of the Department of Policital
Science which was approved by the Faculty Senate.

I approve of the Code with the following revisions:

In the Preamble, please remove the word "dismissal". In addition,
the preferred phrasing for the last sentence is "Recommendations
to the Chairperson and to the Dean resulting fram these procedures

are advisory in nature".

The procedure for dismissal is outlined in detail in Appendix D and
not a concern of unit codes. °

Section III C. Please insert "Personriel Cammittee" before
"recommendations" in line 5, page 10, and again between "reject"
and "recommendations" in line 7, page 10.

This makes it perfectly clear that only Personnel Cammittee
recommendations are to be voted on.

Section V. At the end of the first sentence add the phrase
"taking into consideration provisions of the Faculty Manual".

These provisions are in Section III on page 23 in the first
section of the Faculty Manual.

Section VII. Please place "tenured" before "faculty" in the
first line.

Section VIII. Please place "tenured faculty" before “members"
in the second line.

These last two changes are in conformity with Appendix L.
