The Faculty Affairs Committee report of February 27, 1985 (85-24)
states that the committee recommends no change in Appendix D of the
Faculty Manual. Since I believe that paragraph one of the committee's
resolution does indeed significantly change the fixed-term employment
policy as currently stated in Appendix D, I am not accepting Faculty
Senate Resolution 85-24. I wish to continue with the currently utilized
procedure with regard to fixed-term employment.

In response to paragraph two of resolution 85-24, the administration
does and will continue to review fixed-term appointments and, where appro-
priate and feasible, has and will continue to convert appointments to
tenurable, probationary appointments.

I have referred Faculty Senate Resolution 85-31 to an ad hoc conmittee
composed of the Director of Academic Library Services, the Director of the
Health Sciences Library, the Director of the Print Shop and the University
Business Manager. This committee will discuss this resolution and report
back to me with its recommendations.

Resolutions 85-26 (Political Science Code), 85-27 (Revisions in History
Code), 85-28(Revisions in Mathematics Code), 85-29 (Revisions in English Code)
have been referred to my Advisory Conmittee.
