CURRICULUM COMMITTEE Minutes January 10, 1985 The Curriculum Committee met January 10, 1985, at 1:30 p.m. in Brewster B-103. Members present were: Templeton, Hancock, McMillan, Daugherty, Grossnickle, Boyce, Ziehr, Topper and Cain (ex officio). Members absent were: Broadhurst, Muller, Wease and Briley (student). Ziehr moved that the minutes of November 8, 1984, be approved as written. The motion was seconded and passed. Professors Bill Durham and Elizabeth Sparrow of the Business Education Department presented BUED 1000, Keyboarding (1) for consideration. They noted that the course could not be counted toward a major or minor in Business Education and that this statement should be added to the course description. They felt it would be a very useful course for students working with microcomputers who wished to improve their speed and accuracy. Boyce moved that the course be approved as amended. Topper seconded. The motion passed. Professors Brad Foley and Ruth Boxberger presented the requests of the School of Music to revise the Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy, Voice Performance, Voice Pedagogy, and String Performance; to add new courses MUSIC 5297, Music Therapy Practicum (1); MUSIC 1108, 1118, Non Music Major Voice Group I, II (1,1); to revise the catalogue descriptions for MUSIC 2305 and MUSIC 2315; and to bank MUSIC 5476. Topper moved that the proposals be approved. McMillan seconded. The motion passed. Professor Nancy Mayberry presented the proposal of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures to change SPAN 2108, 2115, 2116, 3216 from 2 to 3 semester hours; to revise the BA and BS in Spanish; to add a Professional BS in Spanish, to revise the Spanish minor and to change SPAN 5305 to 4305 and remove it from the Curriculum Bank; to add new courses SPAN 2227, Introduction to the Structure to Languages (1) and SPAN 4306, Introduction to Translation (3). She also requested that SPAN 2228 be deleted effective December 31, 1985. Templeton moved the approval of the proposals as amended. Hancock seconded. The motion passed. Professor Lee Otte presented the new course proposal from the Department of Geology, GEOL 1550, Oceanography (4) with the subsequent deletion of GEOL 3600 and the changes in the Geology minor and the Coastal Marine Studies Minor. McMillan moved the approval of the changes. Boyce seconded. The motion passed. Professors Robert Bernhardt, William Spickerman, and John Daugherty presented the Department of Mathematics' requests for a Mathematics Major with Option in Statistics; a Statistics Minor; a prerequisite change for CSCI 4630 and remove CSCI 4630 from the list of electives for the Computer Science Minor and from the Mathematics major with an option in Computer Science; and statements concerning double credit for the various calculus courses. Daugherty moved that these proposals be approved. McMillan seconded. The motion passed. Professors Barry DuVall and Darryl Davis presented the request for the School of Technology for a new concentration in Sales and Services for the BS Professional Degree in INDT; new courses INDT 2150, 2151, Circuit Analysis c (3,0); INDT 4234, 4235, Machine and Tool Design (3,0) and changes in Technical Institute/Community College Transfer Program and the BS Professional Concentrations of Electricity/Electronies, Drafting Design, and Graphic Communications. Hancock moved that all the changes as amended be approved. Templeton seconded. The motion passed, In committee business, Grossnickle moved that INDT 3294 be removed from the Curriculum Bank and that PRC 3202, CORS 5000, MGMT 2002, HOME 5366, CHEM 5360, 5361, PHYS 5321, and MATH 5321 be placed into the Curriculum Bank and also to delete HIST 2400 and 2410. Daugherty seconded. The motion passed. The Department of Psychology requested that the following clarifications be made in reference to the November 17, 1983, Curriculum Committee Minutes: 1. HSEM 2013 will substitute for PSYC 1050 and 1051 when taught as "Introductory Psychology" or "General Psychology." 2. HSEM 2013 will substitute for PSYC 2250, Selected Topics in Psychology, when taught as a specific topic such as the examples (i.e., "Behavioral Psychology" and "Landmark Works in Psychology") cited on page 80 of the 1984-86 catalogue.
