Faculty Senate aQ¢ The General Faculty of East Carolina University FROM: James LeRoy Smith Chair of the Faculty DATE: August 1, 1984 SUBJECT: Constitutional Amendments to be Considered at the General Faculty Meeting August 20, 1984, at 9:00 a.m. in Hendrix Theatre Faculty Senate Resolutions 84-15 and 84-20A, constitutional amendments to Appendix A, Constitution of the Faculty Senate, East Carolina University, were recommended by the Faculty Governance Committee, passed by the Faculty Senate e°"" the 1983-1984 academic year, approved by Chancellor John Howell, and are subject to final approval by the General Faculty. These amendments, as printed on the reverse Side, will be considered on August 20, 1984; and if approved, will be part of Section ITI and the By~Laws of the Faculty Senate Constitution, on pages A-1 and A-9 of the Faculty Manual. Faculty members who desire to amend the proposed constitutional amendments should present their amendments in writing to the Chair of the Faculty, Rawl Annex 140. Organization of the General Faculty Replace: The General Faculty shall consist of all regular mem- bers of the teaching or research staff who hold the rank of full-time instructor or above, all staff personnel who hold ranks equivalent to those of the teaching staff and general administrative officers of East Carolina University and their assistants in policy-making posi- tions. The General Faculty shall consist of all full-time members of the teaching, research, or administrative staff who hold an academic title, including those on special faculty appointment. (This is required for consistency with the UNC Code.) Resolution 84-20A By-Laws, East Carolina University Faculty Senate (Insertion of underlined sentence is the amendment.) I. Attendance, Seating, and Participation 5.. Each unit of the University may elect one alternate represen- tative to the Faculty Senate, said alternate being elected in the same manner as Faculty Senators and serving until the time of the next election within the unit. Those units that have more than one senator may elect two alternates. Ss. if more than one one alternate is elected, they should should be elected to Staggered two-year terns. . Thereafter, the alternate will be elected at the time of regular election of Faculty Senators, and will serve for a twoeyear term. Alternates shall be eligible for reelection. A unit not having an alternate may elect one at the time of any regular senatorial election. Sutdents who did not secure an adequate schedule may begin drop/add at 8:00 a.m. Students who did secure an adequate schedule but who wish to change sections or courses may begin drop/add at noon.
