EAST CAROLINA UNIVERSITY GREENVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA 27834 OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR Dr. Martin Schwarz Chairman Department of Foreign Languages & Literature East Carolina University Dear Dr. Schwarz: I have carefully reviewed the Faculty Senate approved revision of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature code and approve it with the following modifications: - Section VII.C, add to the last sentence "except that no provision for summer school employment shall be in conflict with the Faculty Manual" (Part III - Faculty Load). Section IX A 3, restate the last sentence to read "a recommendation for promotion requires a three-fifths vote." This statement removes any ambiguity as to whether this is a recommendation or a nomination for recommendation. Section IX A 4, restate the sentence to read "The Chairman shall submit the names of candidates recommended for promotion to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences in accordance with regulations of Appendix D, Section III, D." This is a clear and concise statement. Section IX B 2, restate the last sentence to read “a recommendation for permanent tenure requires a three-fifths vote". This is a clear and concise statement. Section IX B 3, restate sentence to read "The Chairman shall submit the names of candidates recom- mended for permanent tenure to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences in accordance with appendix D, Section III."
