Accomplishments Working with the Career Planning and Placement Center and following Senate resolutions 83-18, 83-19, we have designated career education coordinators for most of the departments in the university (see attached list). On April 9, 1984, an open house will be held for the appropriate vice chancellors and the career coordinators at the Bloxton House. Information will be distributed and suggestions solicited. At the present time, the Career Education profiles are at the Print Shop. We anticipate that the booklet will be run off by mid-May and then it will be sent off to Chapel Hill to be approved. Going by that schedule, the book should be available for distribution by fall 1984 semester. Recommendations: 1. That copies of the career profiles be given to each General College advisor, each unit office, Career Planning, Cooperative Education, Joyner Library, the Counseling Center and through the Admissions VIII. Office to area high school guidance counselors. Plans should be made to update the career profiles book every two years to coincide with publication of new catalogues. We suggest that Business Education and Industrial Technology be done immediately because of recent major changes made in their curriculums. We also recommend that responsibility for the book updating, maintenance and distribution be transferred to an administrative office on campus that has the necessary support staff and facilities (possibilities include Career Planning and Admissions). Our reasoning is that our committee sees our role as iniators rather than maintainers. because of our revolving membership. Citation of the resolution numbers that originated with the committee: None Proposals and/or business to be carried over to next year: Follow up Career Profiles' completion and Faculty Senate Resolution 83-18. Evaluation of the Committee: A. Structure: satisfactory B. Duties: rather too broad and ambiguous--we would appreciate some specific direction. : C. Function: satisfactory but slow due to matters outside our consideration. D. Personnel. satisfactory Suggestions for improving the effectiveness of the committee: The committee has worked fairly effectively.. It is a strong feeling of the committee that much time has been wasted waiting for the funding and the completion of the booklet on career profiles and this has led to a sense of frustration and futility. It has also led the committee to question its reasons for: existence and what its future functions should encompass. We would like to suggest that the Chair of the Faculty attend the first committee meeting of next year to discuss the charge and function of the committee. Members of the committee who are leaving the committee now have expressed their willingness to act as advisors to the new committee members.
