They are listed for your consideration: 83-1 Bea BS. BA/BS. Minor aa Political Sexence, B.8./B.o. Minor in Public Administration; B.A. Drama and Speech a 83-2 Recommendation to add ELEM 5317: Reading in the Junior and Senior High School for secondary education majors, SPED 2101: Introduction to Exceptional Children for all teacher education majors and to add as a cognate a multicultural course as soon as passed by the Senate. These requirements are to be met by all teacher education majors who are accepted to the Upper Division of Teacher Education after such passage by the Faculty Senate. The revisions to the Code of Operations of the Department of Philosophy (see attached) Recommended changes in committee titles: 1. Change "Committee on Educational Policies and Planning" to "Educational Policies and Planning Committee" 2. Change "Committee for Teaching Effectiveness" to "Teaching Effectiveness Committee" 3. Change "University Computer Committee" to "Faculty Computer Committee" 4, Change "University Research committee" to "Research/Creative Activity Committee" 5. Change "University Libraries Committee" to "Libraries Committee" 6. Change "University Teaching Grants Committee" to "Teaching Grants Committee" East Carolina University is a constituent institution of The University of North Carolina Chancellor Howell January 25, 1983 CLA/hrb 7. Change "University Curriculum Committee" to "Curriculum Committee" The members of the Course Drop Appeals Committee hereafter shall serve three-year-terms. Since the committee is now made up of six members, all serving two-year terms, three to expire in 1983, three to expire in 1984, the following arrangement will be observed to insure staggered three-year terms in the future: 1) of the three members whose term of office expires in 1983, the term of one member will be extended one year, 2) of the three members whose term of office expires in 1984, the term of two members will be extended one year, 3) the members who will have their term of office extended will be determined by the Course Drop Appeals Committee by majority vote, and reported to the Committee on Committees -by March 4, 1983. WHEREAS, merit monies were not available on an annual basis this year, and WHEREAS, Section V(B) of Personnel Policies and Procedures (Appendix C dated June, 1982) provides for unit administra- tors to recommend annual salary increments according to administrative requirements and individual unit codes; therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate recommend to the Chancel- lor that determination of merit raises, when not available annually, be based on the "degree of teaching excellence, creative activity and research, and service" accomplished during the total period elapsing since the last merit raises were available.
