January 10, 1983 Chancellor John Howell Spilman East Carolina University Dear John, The following gotions/resolutions approved by the Faculty Senate December 7, 1982, are presented for your approval: 82-74 Motion that search committees for, respectively, the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement, the Director of the Library, the Director of Admissions, the Director of the Counseling Center and the Director of the Regional Development Center, 1) be requested to arrange open meetings with any oandidates brought to campus, that these neetings be announced to all faculty, and that a vehicle be provided at such meetings for the written expression of faculty reaction to the candidates; and, [82-73] 2) to arrange meetings with the academic committee that is most concerned with the area of responsibility for which the individual is a candidate. Revision of the charge of the Teacher Education Committee. The membership was changed to read, "...seven faculty members, at least five from teacher education faculty from the various units." (You approved this resolution January 7, 1983.) Amendment to the Faculty Senate Constitution: "The Chairman may delegate to the Vice Chairman or an appointed representative hie or her seat on any of the academic committees." Amendment to the Faculty Senate Constitution: "All full-time faculty members of East Carolina University are ¢ligible to vote for representatives to the Faculty Senate. All full-time faculty members of East Carolina University holding permanent tenure or tenure-track positions are eligible to serve in the Faculty Senate." Chancellor 82-85 January 10, 1983 Motion concerning transfer policy, found on page 55 of current catalogue: Students transferring from other institutions who desire to substitute a course transferred by title [82-79] (with no precise ECU equivalent indicated) for a required course within a major at East Carolina University must submit a petition requesting the substitution to the dean or department chairperson of the academic unit offering the course. If the request is granted, the petition will be placed in the student's folder and a copy of the petition transmitted to the Office of the Registrar. Motion changing sentence in Tests and Examinations on page 43 of the Faculty Manual: "Where practical, some indication should be given to the student of her/his standing in the course before the thirtieth day of the semester (tenth day of the summer session)". University Curriculum Committee revisions: From the minutes of November 11, 1982: a. Revise the following degrees in Home Economics: Home Economics Education (Teacher and Community Service Options), GNIM and CUP option, Housing and Management (Housing and Management Options), Child Development and Family Relations, Clothing and Textiles (Merchandising and Clothing and Textile Options). Revise BA/BS minor in Geology. Revise BS degree in Health Sciences (Statistics). New Bachelor of Music with Business Emphasis. Policy about graduation with distinetion with second undergraduate degree returned to University Curriculum Committee. Commencement date set for Saturday, May 4, 1985. Procedural motions which do not require approval are listed as follows: 82-77 Motion to reconsider motion presented by Carl Adler at November 16, 1982, meeting of the Senate concerning omission of "holding tenure-track or permanently tenured positions" in the proposed second amendment to the Faculty Senate Constitution. Motion to separate Item b in report of University Curriculum Committee to be considered as a separate item.
