Chairman Grossnickle moved that the prerequisite for ACCT 3551 be changed from ACCT 2521 to ACCT 2401. Professor Cain seconded and the motion passed. Professors D. McMillan, Department of English and Mike Bassman, Depart- ment of Foreign Languages and Literatures, presented the new course proposal ASMR 2000, Introduction to Medieval and Renaissance Studies. On the course proposal, I.F., the following should be added to the catalogue description: "(This course can be used toward satisfaction of either the electives requirement of the ASMR minor or the humanities requirement for general education.)" The course should be added to the list of electives on page 97 of the Undergraduate Catalogue. On page 79 of the Catalogue at the end of the list of general education requirements, the following should be inserted: "Certain interdisciplinary courses may be used to satisfy certain general education requirements." Professor Boyce moved to accept the new course proposal as amended, Professor Cain seconded, and the motion passed. Professor Fred Ragan, Department of History presented the new track for the B.S. degree in Public History and presented the new course proposal, HIST. 4940, Internship in Public History. One correction was noted in the Curriculum for Public History, item (2) Required HIST courses . ... HIST 5950 (not 5920). Professor Boyce moved to accept the new curriculum proposal for Public History and the new course proposal, Professor Broadhurst seconded, and the motion passed. Designed to provide students with practical field experience work- ing under supervision in museums, archival and manuscript agencies, or historic sites. Total 132) ssh Be it resolved by the Board of Governors of The University of North Carolina: (1) that Section 606 of the Code of The University of North Carolina ~ be amended to read, on and after July 1, 1982, as follows: SECTION 606. RETIREMENT OF FACULTY AND REAPPOINTMENT BEYOND NORMAL RETIREMENT DATE (1) Each member of the faculty shall be retired automatically, without notice, on July 1 coincident with or next following his or her seventieth birthday, except as provided in subsection (2), below. (2) A faculty member may be continued in employment beyond the retirement date specified in subsection (1) upon recommendation of the Chancellor and approval of the Board of Trustees; provided, that such a continua- tion in employment may be accomplished only through & term appointment or a series of term appointments, with each such term appointment not to exceed one year in duration. (2) and that the relevant sections of the tenure policies and regulations of each constituent institution shall be amended to conform to the revised language of Section 606 of the Code; the President is ‘authorized to approve, on behalf of the Board of Governors, all such changes made by the constituent institutions in their tenure policies and regulations. Adopted by the Board of Governors March 12, 1982. AMENDMENTS TO THE FACULTY SENATE CONSTITUTION Page A-1, Section I. Add as second paragraph: Ss Purpose The purpose of the faculty organization shall be to provide the means by which the faculty is enabled to fulfill its function with respect to academic and educational policies and other affairs of East Carolina University. The faculty organization shall be comprised of the General Faculty and the Faculty Senate. The General Faculty shall be the general electorate, and the Faculty Senate shall be a legislative and advisory body representing the General Faculty and shall consist of elected and ex-officio members. The functions, duties, and privileges of these two bodies, stipulated in the following document, shall be exercised under the authority of the Chancellor of East Carolina University. The Faculty Senate and the various committees on which the faculty serve shall be the primary media for the essential joint effort of faculty and administration in the government of East Carolina University. The Chancellor and the Chair of the Faculty shall facilitate communica- tion which will enable continuing and effective faculty participation.
