UNIVERSITY CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MINUTES January 25, 1982 The University Curriculum Committee met on January 25, 1982, in Brewster B-103 at 3 p.m. Members present: Broadhurst, Daugherty, Grossnickle, Hancock, Holt, Leahy, Moore and Cain (ex officio). Members absent: Boyce, Hamilton, O'Rear and ex-officio Howell and Johnson. The following correction was made in the minutes of January 11, 1982, in the Pre-Cytotechnology curriculum Chemistry 1221 should be Chemistry 1121. Delete Pre-Cytotechnology Curriculum on first page of course descriptions; it remains on page 2. Professors Ragan, Calhoun, and Paschal, Department of History, presented the new B.S. track in Public History and HIST 4940, Internship in Public History. They stated that the honorarium mentioned in the proposal was not provided for in their academic budget. After considerable discussion the proposal was withdrawn. Professor Leahy moved to recommend that the total hours required for the degree be reduced. Hancock seconded and the motion passed. Professor Halke, School of Allied Health, presented the courses HSTA 5300, Advanced Epidemiologic Design and Analysis, HSTA 5350. Application of Statistical Methods in Epidemiology, and HSTA 5400, Research Planning in Epidemiology. It was stated that an agreement had been reached with the Computing Center that the Computing Center would not have to work with the students in HSTA 5400 on an individual basis. Professor Daugherty moved that these courses be approved, Broadhurst seconded and the motion passed. Professor Durham, Department of Business Education and Office Administration, presented the changes in the departmentS B.S. teaching degrees and certificates, Office Administration and minor in Business Education. Professor Holt moved the changes be approved, Topper seconded and the motion passed. The problems encountered when degree proposals are not presented in catalog formwere discussed. The committee agreed that all future degree programs must be in catalogue form before consideration. HSTA 5350 _ Application of Statistical Methods in Epidemiology (2) (F,S, 8S on demand) Two classroom hours per week Prerequisites: HPRO 5010, HSTA 5300, Statistics including regression analysis or consent of instruction. An examination of statistical concepts and techniques to epidemiology. Topics to be covered include the determination of sample sizes necessary for studies, the use of advanced multivariable statistical analysis techniques in epidemiologic research, and the statistical approaches appropriate to the analysis of continuous’ response variables in epidemiology. HSTA 5400 Research Planning in Epidemiology (3) (F, S, SS ON DEMAND) Three classroom hours per week co Prerequisites: HPRO 5010 and one Statistics Course or Per- mission of Instructor A classroom course designed to lead students through the research topic to the writing of a detailed research protocol. Topics to be covered include the literature review, selection of specific research question, selection of research approach, and the detailed description of study methodology.
