UNIVERSITY CURRICULUM COMMITTEE & MINUTES January 11, 1982 The University Curriculum Committee met on January 11, 1982, in Brewster B-103 at 3:00 p.m. Members present: Grossnickle, Boyce, Broadhurst, Daugherty, Hancock, Holt, Moore, Leahy, O'Rear, and Topper and Hamilton. Members absent: Cain, and ex officio Howell and Johnson. The following corrections were made in the minutes of November 23, 1981: Page 20 I. Proposed Realignment of Voice and Organ Concentrations in Bachelor of Music in Church Music, H. Church Music: (Remaining 3 s-h....) and in line 16, Church Music: (Remaining 3 s.h....). The following corrections were made in the minutes of November 30, 1981, on Page 8, paragraph 2, delete, "New course proposal COHE, NURS 5460, 5461, Patient Education was presented." On page 21, School of Nursing ... delete section beginning COHE, NURS ... NURS page 201. On page 21 item #3, change CHEM 1120* and CHEM 1121*. Professors Mary Kirkpatrick, Nursing, and Pat Garton, Community Health, presented COHE/Nursing 5460, 5461, Patient Education for Interdisciplinary Health Care Providers. The course proposal I.B. was amended to show 3,0. The course will be crosslisted COHE/Nursing. Professor Broadhurst moved to approve the or as amended. Professor Moore seconded, and the motion passed. Professor Zoretic, Department of Chemistry, requested a change in CHEM 1120, General and Organic Chemistry from 3 s.h. to 4 s.h., and the present corequisite laboratory course, CHEM 1121, deleted as a requirement. This pro- posal changes requirements in Nursing, Home Economics, Chemistry, and Occupational Therapy. Professor Grossnickle moved to accept the Chemistry proposal, as amended and contingent upon receiving a revised course syllabus. The motion passed. Professor Broadhurst moved to accept the change in the Nursing requirements (page 402) deleting CHEM 1121. The motion was seconded and passed. Professor Grossnickle moved to accept the change in the requirements for Occupational Therapy on page 275 from 24-s.h. to 25 s.h. and for pre-cytotechnology (page 276) in item 1. 8 s.h. to 9 s.h. (with the approval of Professor S. Smith), Professor Boyce seconded and the motion passed. Prerequisites: Permission of the Instructor. The lecture/seminar portion of the course will assist students to formulate a conceptual basis for patient education. The student will develop, pretest, and evaluate patient education materials which will euhance the patient's knowledge and behavior in the area of health restoration and prevention.
