2. Subcommittee for Examining Feasibility. of Developing Merit Criteria:

E. Reviewed seventy-nine grant proposals requesting $122,922.50.

F. Recommended funding of fifty-four grant proposals totaling $54,184.50.

Faculty Senate Resolutions: 82-38, 82-39, and 82-40 originated with

the committee and were passed with modification by the Faculty Senate
April 20, 1982.

Senate from which it receives its charge and structure and the Vice
Chancellor for Academic Affairs whose office provides funding and awards
to recommended projects when resources permit.

Functions: Excellent in completion of its charge from the Senate.
Concern exists for the potential need for post-grant evaluation of
benefit and accountability. These are not items in the Faculty

Senate charge to the committee.

Personnel: Excellent. The members functioned with energy and
integrity in the execution of their duties.

Suggestions for improving the effectiveness of the committee.

The committee continues to refine the procedure and define its mission

and operations. Constructive suggestions are anticipated to originate
with committee members in the ne. t academic year.
