Brief statement of committee organization, subcommittees, research activities,
etc.

The Committee's major topic was concernéd with the financial problems
being experienced by the Division of Continuing Education including

the possible effects for faculty. Attendant discussion also involved
the role of the committee. The committee was inactive part of the year
due to changing administration and to illness.

The committee approved the following resolution contained in minutes
of January 25, 1982:

WHEREAS, The Division of Continuing Education appears to be
more susceptible to budgetary reductions than any
other unit; and

WHERAS, state allocations were cut from $105,000 in 1980-81
to $36,000 in 1981-82 necessitating staff reductions;
and

WHEREAS, Continuing Education Faculty are more susceptible
to legislative action than faculty in other units;
and

WHEREAS, Collegiality would be enhanced if all specialists
in a discipline belonged to the same unit; and

WHEREAS, Annual evaluations are more appropriate when specialists
are evaluated by fellow specialists;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Faculty Senate explore
possibilities and made recommendations for having
full-time Continuing Education Faculty holding academic
rank transferred to the appropriate academic units. -

This resolution was presented to the Faculty Affairs Committee on:
January 25, 1982, for consideration and upon which the Faculty Affairs
Committee made recommendation.

The committee proposes that the resolution of the committee of January

25, 1982, and the recommendation from the Faculty Affairs Committee
be jointly presented to the Faculty Senate. .

Education Committee)

Be it resolved that the Faculty Senate explore possibilities
with the appropriate units and the full-time faculty in the

Division of Continuing Education of transferring said faculty
to the appropriate academic departments.

Suggestions for improving the effectiveness of the committee

The committee continues to work under the difficulty inherent in its
structure which is that committee members have very little or no know
ledge of the activities of the Division of Continuing Education.

We do not have any proposals to remedy this problem but experience
the problem acutely.
