UNIVERSITY CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MINUTES OF THE November 20, 1980 The University Curriculum Committee met on November 20, 1980, in Brewster B-103, at 3:00 p.m. Members present were: Grossnickle, Boyce, Moore, Daugherty, Holt, Broadhurst, Cain, Hancock, Hamilton, Richards. Members absent were: Leahy, Foley. The minutes of the November 6, 1980, meeting were approved. Professor W. Durham and J. White , Department of Business Education and Office Administration, presented a proposal to revise the BS minor in Office Administration and provide a new BA minor. The Committee eliminated the word "non-teaching" where it appeared on the proposal and on page 391 in the 1980-81 Undergraduate Catalogue. Boyce moved to accept the proposal as amended, Broadhurst seconded and the motion passed. Professors Floyd Mattheis and Moses Sheppard representing the Department of Science Education presented new course proposals SCIE 1270, Physical Science for Elementary Education, SCIE 1271 Physical Science for Elementary Education Laboratory, SCIE 1280, Life and Environmental Science for Elementary Education Majors, and SCIE 1281, Life and Environmental Science for Elementary Education Majors Laboratory. The new courses are the result of a change in semester hours of SCIE 1250, 1251, 1260, 1261 which are deleted, and should be noted on pages 315, 316, 375 of the 1980-81 Undergraduate Catalogue. Professors Marguerite Perry, Agnes Hostettler, and Raquel Manning, Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures presented three new course proposals. FREN 2005, French Business Communication, GERM 2005 German Business Communication, and SPAN 2005 Spanish Business Communication. Chairman Grossnickle said he had received letters of support for the pro- posals from Professor E. Hester, Department of English, and Professor Thomas , Haigwood, School of Technology. Professor Hamilton moved to accept the new courses, Cain seconded, and the motion passed. Professors L.H. Zincone, John Longhill, and Bruce Wardrep, School of Business requested Committee action on a number of items. New course pro- posals presented: FINA 4604, Real Estate Financing, FINA 4584, Real Estate Appraisal II, and MKTG 4972, Topics in Marketing. Request to delete MGMT 4962, Topics in Management and Marketing and add MGMI 4952, Topics in Management with the catalogue description to read, "Prerequisites: MGM 3242 and permission of the Departmental Chairperson. Selected topics in management." The School of Business asked to double-list Geography 5022, Theories of Industrial Location as Economics 4022, Theories of Industrial Location and Geography 5024 as ECON 4024, Regional Development. Action on ACCT 3581 was tabled. Change in the concentration for the management concentration ae oe ad as follows: MGMT 4402, Personnel Management, MGMT 4952, Topics in Manage- ment MKTG 4662, Marketing Research, ECON 4203, Labor Relations, 3 s.h. of MGMT elective. Courses from which students will be able to choose the MGMT elective will be: MGMT 3352, MGM 4242, MGMT 4262, and PSYC 3241 to the above list. New course proposals MGMT 4262, Small Business Management, MGMT 4242 Organizational Behavior, and MGMT 4402, Personnel Management (from MGMI 4462, Manpower Management) were presented. It was added that persons taking MGMT 4242 could not take PSYC 3241 for credit. It was noted that the concentration in marketing would change to MKTG 4562, MKTG 4662, MKTG 4732 with selection of any two courses among MKTG 4352, 4362, 4752, 4772, 4892, 4972. In addition the concentration in economics would change to a selection of 15 s.h. from ECON 3323, 4022, 4024, 4203, 4213, 4353, 4363, FINA 4944. Professor Broadhurst moved to accept the various proposals and changes as amended from the School of Business. Moore seconded the motion and the motion passed. Professors Charles Stevens, George Knight, and Ruth Boxberger of the School of Music presented revisions and changes as follows: Revisions in the catalogue statements relative to the junior and senior recital require- ments on pages 349, 350, 351, 353, 354, 355 of the 1980-81 Undergraduate Catalogue (see attachment). This requirement applies to all degree programs in the School of Music. The following proposed changes in the catalogue are for the purposes of clarifying the catalogue statements and eliminating all departures from the regulation.
