MINUTES OF THE UNIVERSITY CURRICULUM COMMITTEE September 18, 1980 The University Curriculum Committee met on September 18, 1980, in Brewster B-103 at 3:00 p.m. Members present were: Grossnickle, Boyce, Daugherty, Richards, Broadhurst, Hancock, Hamilton, Holt, Leahy, Moore and Foley. Members absent: Cain. The minutes of April 17, 1980, were approved. The minutes of August 25 were corrected to read: the members absent were: Daugherty, Foley (replacing Bland), Hamilton, and Cain. NOTE : The members of the University Curriculum Committee 1980-81 are as follows: Emily S. Boyce, Library Science, Secretary Ruth Broadhurst, Nursing Myra Cain (For Maier), Academic Affairs Stella Daugherty, Mathematics, Vice Chairperson Brad Foley, Music William Grossnickle, Psychology, Chairman (3 copies of proposals) Karen Hancock, HPERS George Hamilton, Allied Health Robert Holt, Philosophy Edward Leahy, Geography Miriam Moore, Home Economics John Richards, Education NOTE: Chairman Grossnickle reminded the Committee that in order for new course proposals or catalogue changes to appear in the next year's catalogue, the changes must be passed by the University Curriculum Committee by December 4. Professors Regan and P. Adler represented the History Department and requested a change in the catalogue course description for HIST 5910, 5920, and 5930. The revised statement follows: This course will not be accept- able for the 3 s.h. senior-graduate level (5000-5999) requirement for history majors. Professor P. Adler presented a new course proposal, HIST 2410, the Individual and Society in Modern Europe. He stated there had been consul- tation with the Departments of Sociology, Psychology, and Geography concern- ing the new course. He said library holdings were reasonably adequate at present; however, some new periodical holdings may be useful. Professor Adler stated they would plan to delete some periodical titles presently on sub- scription and hopefully add new titles if necessary to support the new course. Professor Richards moved to accept the catalogue change as amended and the new course from the History Department. Professor Holt seconded the motion and the motion passed as amended. The proposal to make CSCI 3600 a required course for B.A. Degree Mathematics Major was explained. Professor Hamilton moved to accept the change, Moore seconded, and the motion passed. HIST 5910 HIST 5920 HIST 5930 HISTORY Introduction to the Administration of Archives and Historical Manuscripts (3) (F) A study of the background, preservation, and use of archives and historical manuscripts. Particular emphasis will be placed on the historical evolution of the archival profession and the ad- ministration of archives and manuscripts repositories. This course will not be acceptable for the 3 s.h. senior-graduate level (5000-5999) requirement for history majors. Techniques of Musewn and Historie Site Development (3) (F) A survey of the history and theory of museology and of the tech- niques of museum and historic site management. This course will not be acceptable for the 3 s.h. senior-graduate level (5000-5999) requirement for history majors. Field and Laboratory Studies in Museuwn and Historic Site Develop- ment (3) (8) The development of practical methods for the operation and manage- ment of history museums and historic sites. This course will not be acceptable for the 3 s.h. senior-graduate level (5000-5999) requirement for history majors. Catalogue Placement: Page 190. The Individual & Society in Modern Europe. (3) (Once Annually) Three (3) classroom hours per week. Prerequisites: None This course considers the relations of individuals and social institutions in Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries. Emphasis placed on the changing patterns of male/female relationships, the role of the family, occupations, leisure activities, education, etc., in an historical context.
