Committee Organization, Subcommittees, Research Activities, etc. Lokenath Debnath, Chairman Carl Adler, Vice Chairman William Still, Secretary Four subcommittees were organized: "A" “haired by Dr. Topper, "B'" chaired by Dr. Adler, "C" chaired by Dr. Markowski, and "D'' chaired by Dr. Debnath. The full committee and its subcommittees A, B, and C, evaluated, debated, and discussed all 54 proposals for 1981-82. The Committee carefully evaluated and considered all proposals and then voted on all proposals. The Con- mittee's recommendations for the 1981-82 proposals were ready on April 3, 1981. The Committee recommended approximately $43,133 for 1981-82; the total number of proposals recommended for funding is 40. The Committee's recommendations were forwarded to Dr. Maier in early April. Committee Accomplishments: A. Developed criteria for evaluation of grant proposals. B. Elected six members to serve on the Summer Grants Committee. Cy D. Evaluated all 54 grant proposals. Recommended 40 proposals with approximately $43,133 for funding, to Dr. Maier for his and Chancellor's approval. Almost all members of the Committee were active participants in and involved with the activities of the Committee.) Suggestions for improving the effectiveness of the Committee: The Committee feels that Summer Award Committee should be abolished and the University Research Committee should take the responsibility for all research grants including Summer Research Grants.
