Specific instructions, if any, given to the committee by the Faculty
Senate. At the March 17, 1981, meeting, the committee was instructed
to develop a calendar which would incorporate the following: (1)
starting date in September, (2) a Fall Break to coincide with Thanks-
giving, and (3) a date for school ending in middle or late May.
Motion (81-22).

A brief statement of committee organization, subcommittees, research
activities, etc. The committee used ad hoc subcommittees to prepare
the criginal drafts of the proposed calendars and to draw up the
faculty survey on the Fall Break, but otherwise, functioned as a whole.

List of committee accomplishments.
Held an open hearing on the 1983 Summer School, and the 1985-84 Academic
year Calendars on October 8, 1980.

Report of the Calendar Committee

1981

Conducted a survey of the faculty and the Division of Student Life
on the question of a Fall Break.

Revised the final exam schedule.

Established a rotating exam schedule for the common exams.

Prepared and presented to the Faculty Senate calendars for Summer
School 1983, Fall Semester 1983 (included a Fall Break) and Spring
Semester 1984. (Motions 81-30, 81-31, 81-32, 81-33, and 81-34)

Citation of the resolution numbers of Senate resolutions that originates

with the committee.
April 21, 1981, meeting (81-30, 31, 32, 33, and 34).

Suggestions for improving the effectiveness of the committee.

The Senate should not consider revisions to the calendar that have
