When Sparrow returned to Wilmington from Tarboro, he found out that he had been appointed Judge Advocate of the General Court Martial. While fulfilling this duty, Sparrow is living with Captain Andrews in the Methodist Parsonage. Sparrow then tells Annie to write to him and that he will send her money from his pay.
