The continues to re- <lb />
but with all its reflections <lb />
it noes not seem to cast the rays of <lb />
reflection sufficiently strong upon <lb />
the s portion of Greenville's <lb />
anatomy to interest enough to or- <lb />
establish a of <lb />
trade. it is a great <lb />
on that there is not <lb />
a board of trade the <lb />
men of t Be town. The town <lb />
es not enjoy the respectful con- <lb />
of outside Id that <lb />
it should and would were there a <lb />
good board of trade. Twice has <lb />
the writer been asked by people at <lb />
a distance in less than a week what <lb />
sort cf board trade Greenville <lb />
had, and with much regret the ans- <lb />
could only be in truth none at <lb />
all, except a tobacco board of <lb />
trade which effects a special inter- <lb />
est. <lb />
It is humiliating and <lb />
mortifying that with such a <lb />
citizenship as the town of <lb />
Greenville has, and we are proud <lb />
of her citizenship, that they do not <lb />
formulate themselves into a strong <lb />
and effective board of trade. Many <lb />
advantages would realized <lb />
good would come to Hie town <lb />
and people. Business men <lb />
from abroad are often in- <lb />
formation that should come we I <lb />
digested from a sound, sensible <lb />
and well formed body of sensible <lb />
business men. Such information <lb />
would be of weight and value <lb />
Many plans and specifications and <lb />
projects would he discussed and <lb />
set foot by the getting together <lb />
of those who are interested in push- <lb />
forward the town's interest, <lb />
and great results would inevitably <lb />
follow. That there is skill, ability <lb />
ad good means there is a <lb />
and concentrated the <lb />
influence would felt to a much <lb />
m enter degree than be <lb />
Because there never was <lb />
no reason why there should be. <lb />
There was railroad until <lb />
there i no who would like <lb />
to see the railroad slop and run no <lb />
more. There was no tobacco mar <lb />
until and all know whir <lb />
it done the town. The <lb />
graph, the telephone and many <lb />
things could be mentioned <lb />
we do wish a <lb />
good of trade would be a <lb />
great Strength and protection <lb />
the town. We had no banks for <lb />

beautiful thoughts and splendid <lb />
ideas of toe teaching of the order <lb />
from the lips of of th- <lb />

First, the address of welcome by <lb />

talk indeed it was that be made, <lb />
his cordial made every <lb />
one experience the greatest com- <lb />

The address -of welcome was ably <lb />
responded to y F. O. Harding of <lb />

usual easy graceful style. <lb />
Brother Harding is well known <lb />
throughout being <lb />
one of the loading attorneys of <lb />
Greenville bar, for minutes he <lb />
held his audience with <lb />
his eloquence. Then came that <lb />
well known Odd Fellow Dr. D, L <lb />

and very helpful speech for <lb />
the good of the order, it has been <lb />
the good of many Odd <lb />

BOARD OF TRADE, <lb />
Editor <lb />
The Reflector continues to re- <lb />
but with all of its reflections <lb />
it Hots not seem to the rays of <lb />
reflection sufficiently strong upon <lb />
the portion of Greenville's <lb />
anatomy to interest enough to or- <lb />
and establish a board of <lb />
trade. Really it is a great <lb />
on the town that there is not <lb />
a board of the <lb />
men of the town The <lb />
h es not enjoy the respectful con- <lb />
of outside Id that <lb />
it should and would were there a <lb />
good board of trade. Twice has <lb />
the writer been asked by people at <lb />
a distance in less than a week what <lb />
sort cf board trade Greenville <lb />
had, and with much regret the ans- <lb />
could only be in truth none at <lb />
all, except a tobacco board of <lb />
trade which effects a special inter- <lb />
est. <lb />
ft is indeed humiliating and <lb />
mortifying that with such a <lb />
citizenship as town of <lb />
Greenville has, and we are proud <lb />
of her citizenship, that they do not <lb />
formulate themselves into a strong <lb />
and effective board of trade. Many <lb />
would be realized <lb />
good would come to town <lb />
and the people. Business men <lb />
from abroad are often in- <lb />
formation , hat should come we I <lb />
digested fro-n a sound, sensible <lb />
and well formed body of sensible <lb />
business men. Such information <lb />
would be of weight and value <lb />
plans and specifications and <lb />
projects would be discussed <lb />
set on foot by the getting together <lb />
of those who are interested push- <lb />
forward the town's interest, <lb />
and great results would inevitably <lb />
follow. That there is skill, ability <lb />

doubt, when concentrated the <lb />
influence would be to a much <lb />

Every one who deals in <lb />
knows that their value of <lb />
increase in weight is not based <lb />
upon any ratio. That is, a <lb />
of one carat weight is not <lb />
worth one half, the being <lb />
equal in all qualities, to a <lb />
of two carat is worth more <lb />
than twice, and the three carat <lb />
is worth more than the ratio of <lb />
weight indicates over the one <lb />
and two carat stones. <lb />
This increase in ratio of val- <lb />
is found in advertising <lb />
space, and a Wisconsin profess- <lb />
or is the authority, who has <lb />
found by inquiry among the us- <lb />
of ad space, that a one page <lb />
advertisement was not twice the <lb />
value of a half-page advertise- <lb />
as might be imagined, but <lb />
twenty-five times the value; that <lb />
a half-page was fifteen times the <lb />
value of a quarter-page, and a <lb />
ten line agate announcement, in <lb />
comparison even with a quarter- <lb />
page advertisement, was not to <lb />
be mentioned at all. <lb />
Like diamond values, the big <lb />
ad space seems to command the <lb />
prestige that a two carat <lb />
will command over a one <lb />
carat. It impresses every one <lb />
that there must be great value <lb />
the quarter or half page <lb />
ad which the liner or one inch <lb />
ad cannot command <lb />
i the great display ad in <lb />
the newspaper, two to ten times <lb />
the size of the other ads in the <lb />
same newspaper, and its <lb />
size makes itself felt upon <lb />
the readers of the paper, and <lb />
the result is seen in the crowded <lb />
store where people push each <lb />
other along or aside, in order to <lb />
reach the goods enumerated in <lb />
the great ad. <lb />
The success of the big new s- <lb />
paper ad has been demon <lb />
by every merchant that has used <lb />
it, for it has come the <lb />
p which has and <lb />
developed trade, as nothing else <lb />
could have done. It is in the <lb />
big ad stores where will be <lb />
found the crowds of buyers <lb />
