PASSENGER TRAIN DELAYED THREE <lb/>

Hacks Co After Passengers And Mall And <lb/>
Bring Them In. <lb/>
Wednesday night gave the pub- <lb/>
another long tedious wait <lb/>
tor the incoming train, with a <lb/>
downpour rain to add to <lb/>
discomfort of those who waited. <lb/>
Passenger No. was <lb/>
thirty minutes late, which <lb/>
was not considered very bad for <lb/>
the time of year. The crowd of <lb/>
passengers to go away, those <lb/>
who to meet people coming <lb/>
in, gathered at depot <lb/>
for its coming. There it was <lb/>
that, freight train No. <lb/>

into an hour and yet no <lb/>
About o'clock a bedraggled <lb/>
brakeman came walking up <lb/>
track to depot and reported <lb/>
that the freight was wrecked <lb/>
about a mile beyond river and <lb/>
could not move, and the <lb/>
was up right behind it. <lb/>
The hacks put out for the scene to <lb/>
get passengers and mall and <lb/>
bring them over to town, and all <lb/>
got in after awhile. <lb/>
wreck was not extensive <lb/>
resulted only in damage to the <lb/>
engine of the freight train. It <lb/>
seems that the train was too heavy <lb/>
for the engine and stalled when <lb/>
the grade beyond river was <lb/>
reached. engine was <lb/>
and came over to tank <lb/>
water, leaving cars standing <lb/>
track. No light wan on the <lb/>
front car and when the <lb/>
back in the darkness it run <lb/>
cars with such a that <lb/>
tender was smashed and <lb/>
trucks knocked off the track. <lb/>
passenger train pulled the <lb/>
freight cars back to House <lb/>
put them on the sidetrack, <lb/>
while log engine went <lb/>
over from here and pulled <lb/>
disabled engine out of way <lb/>
cleared the truck, so that by II <lb/>
o'clock the passenger train could, <lb/>
get by; <lb/>
Another engine had to be pro <lb/>
cured freight train it <lb/>
could not proceed until early this <lb/>
morning. <lb/>

The reason of Prof. Dove's <lb/>
nation is that lie ha received and <lb/>
accepted a very <lb/>
from Silver, Co., <lb/>
book publishers of New York, t <lb/>
and yet tie average government clerk <lb/>
who is not attending school with a act as their representative in <lb/>
view to becoming a lawyer, doctor and South Carolina. <lb/>
or something of kind is by no Tue <lb/>
means the most fortunate citizen of G , to sue <lb/>
imaginable. A government clerk- Prof- bat <lb/>

work, should he by <lb/>

; trouble has use for a gun. <lb/>
It is no longer good form to drink <lb/>
hi polite society. <lb/>
At some houses nowadays no wine <lb/>
it all is served. Scotch and soda <lb/>
has taken its place, because the <lb/>
doctors say it is the least injurious <lb/>
of all tipples, but very little of that <lb/>
is consumed The butterflies of <lb/>
fashion have at last learned the <lb/>
lesson that a drunken is <lb/>
as as a drunken tramp and <lb/>
that a society woman who <lb/>
in drink is as disgusting as <lb/>
she were an of <lb/>
Street Police Station. They <lb/>
have learned, too, that there is no <lb/>
fun in the word like the fun of <lb/>
ways being sober. The women, es- <lb/>
have also learned that drink <lb/>
rapidly and inevitably destroys their <lb/>
physical as well as their mental <lb/>
charms. <lb/>
The result is that today drinking <lb/>
is decidedly had form among rich <lb/>
and fashionable persons, in Chicago, <lb/>
at any The occasional man <lb/>
who makes a practice of drinking <lb/>
too much is soon The <lb/>
woman who is only <lb/>
under the influence of liquor is <lb/>
tabooed thereafter. <lb/>
Those philosophers who hereto- <lb/>
fore have never been able to see that <lb/>
what is called is of much <lb/>
use in the world will have to admit <lb/>
it now it is of some use, in the <lb/>
good example it is setting. For it <lb/>
is useless to deny that too often the <lb/>
lone of morality in the mass is given <lb/>
to it by those persons who are con- <lb/>
because of wealth and <lb/>
f. Now that they have made <lb/>
temperance fashionable, they will <lb/>
benefit the community as a whole <lb/>
in a very important respect. Chic- <lb/>

MENTION<lb/>
CHURCH FOR ALL WORSHIP- <lb/>
A German Physician Believes <lb/>
Fighting the Devil is the <lb/>
Principal Occupation <lb/>
for Christmas. <lb/>
St. Louis, most unique <lb/>
church in Christendom is to be <lb/>
in South St. Louis by Dr. <lb/>
August Schmidt, a German <lb/>
who has come to the <lb/>
that all church denominations <lb/>
are good and all creeds <lb/>
penally correct, and that there <lb/>
should be a church in every city <lb/>
n- people of every <lb/>
may go and worship the one <lb/>
God. <lb/>
In Dr. Schmidt's church, which <lb/>
he will build and equip with his <lb/>
own money, there will be no <lb/>
no choir, no ceremony, col- <lb/>
plate or fixed service. A <lb/>
set of chimes and a pipe organ <lb/>
operated by will furnish <lb/>
constant music of a kind calculated <lb/>
to men and turn their <lb/>
thoughts toward things spiritual. <lb/>
Dr. Schmidt believes that the <lb/>
churches err in confining their <lb/>
efforts too st I j to the worship <lb/>
of God, which he holds is a <lb/>
form worship after all. He <lb/>
holds that main duty of a <lb/>
Christian is to light the devil, mid <lb/>
he maintains that the devil is <lb/>
within and that <lb/>
who spends all of hi- days in <lb/>
will himself absorb- <lb/>
ed into and become a part of the <lb/>
evil alter death. He ha- no <lb/>
fa i III in a literal hell and does nit <lb/>
believe the Bible to be entirely <lb/>
inspired by God, although he <lb/>
accepts it as a of faith. In <lb/>
his opinion himself is <lb/>
responsible for parts of the Bible <lb/>
which he thinks are contradictory <lb/>
to the pints inspired by God. <lb/>

It begins to appear that the cotton <lb/>
crop of this county will be little <lb/>
short of the usual amount this year <lb/>
in spite of the great reduction of <lb/>
acreage at was made last spring. <lb/>
This that more care and bet- <lb/>
cultivation put on the smaller <lb/>
number of acres this year bring as <lb/>
much as that bestowed on a large <lb/>
number last year, for the seasons <lb/>
were no better during the past year <lb/>
