Charlotte <lb />
Correspondence <lb />
Norfolk, Va, July <lb />
We have heard of toboggan <lb />
and had visions of the the <lb />
but neither of them <lb />
equal the of a roll down <lb />
from the to the sea. <lb />
Having spent nearly a week among <lb />
the superb mountain scenery <lb />
Western North Carolina, I decided <lb />
to take the remainder of ray vacation <lb />
within the sound of the rolling <lb />
lows, and in hours the miles <lb />
between and the Atlantic <lb />
had been and here I am. <lb />
Norfolk is among the most enter- <lb />
prising and progressive titles on the <lb />
Atlantic there is always <lb />
much of interest to be seen. It has <lb />
been a few I was last <lb />
here and the changes noticed are <lb />
almost marvelous. There is thrift <lb />
progress on every band, <lb />
sky-scraper is also getting <lb />
in evidence. <lb />
There are so many <lb />
here a North Carolinian feels <lb />
much at home when he strikes Nor <lb />
folk The city is largely <lb />
i from across the line, mid <lb />
the best business brain and <lb />
came from North The <lb />
Old North State largely built Nor- <lb />
folk and made the city what it is. <lb />
The city directory reads very mm ii <lb />
like it was of a North Carolina town. <lb />
Pitt county is well represented <lb />
Norfolk's business men The <lb />
wholesale dry goods firm of Winston- <lb />
Whichard Co has two county <lb />
ya in L. and II. W. Which- <lb />
ard and they rank with the bast <lb />
business men here. The Mercantile <lb />
Hank has a Pitt county C, <lb />
its president and ho is <lb />
also the leader in the commission <lb />
Bros, ft Which- <lb />
ard Pitt county boys, a <lb />
large retail business in South Nor- <lb />
folk. Miss Minnie a <lb />
county girl, is proprietress of the <lb />
Hotel and is also conducting <lb />
the summer resort hotel at <lb />
by Beach W, Little, of <lb />
conducts two large drug stores at <lb />
Newport News. Beside these there <lb />
are several young men from <lb />
holding important positions in <lb />
houses here, and there are none <lb />
better than our boys. <lb />
Norfolk is ideally located for <lb />
pleasure and it is no won- <lb />
that through the <lb />
come here by the <lb />
thousands. There are places <lb />
of interest the city, while the <lb />
splendid car service brings <lb />
delightful resorts as i Md <lb />
Virginia Beach, Pine Ocean <lb />
View, Willoughby Beach, Cape <lb />
Henry and others access, <lb />
the furthest being reached in less <lb />
than an hour. Some of these resorts <lb />
rival Island and Atlantic City <lb />
in attractions, while for real enjoy- <lb />
in sailing, fishing and bathing <lb />
they cannot be surpassed. <lb />
Norfolk's harbor is one of the <lb />
finest in the world and ships from <lb />
all nations of the earth can be <lb />
seen coming and going through <lb />
Roads. In population, <lb />
business and wealth the city goes <lb />
forward with rapid bounds- It baa <lb />
up-to date newspapers they are <lb />
doing their part toward the city's <lb />
advancement. <lb />
goes steadily on for <lb />
exposition here in <lb />
and it is going to rival any <lb />
similar enterprise ever held in this <lb />
country, while from a naval stand- <lb />
point it will surpass anything the <lb />
world has seen. J W, <lb />
