GREENVILLE, PITT COUNTY. NORTH CAROLINA, TUESDAY. NOVEMBER 1904. <lb />
No. <lb />
ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE MAYOR <lb />
OF GREENVILLE <lb />
Greenville, N. C, Nov. 4th, 1904. <lb />
To the Citizens of Pitt and <lb />
Information has been received in Greenville that an epidemic <lb />
of smallpox exists in our town, and we are informed that reports <lb />
are current throughout the county of Pitt and adjoining counties <lb />
that there cases of this disease in the town of Greenville. <lb />
These reports are without foundation. <lb />
There is only one case of smallpox in the town of Greenville, <lb />
and this one case is of an exceedingly mild type and the party is <lb />
now practically well and will be discharged in a few days. <lb />
There were formerly three other cases in the town of Green- <lb />
ville, two of which were not residents of Greenville, but came here <lb />
from elsewhere with already develop id before they <lb />
came here. <lb />
As mayor of the town of Greenville, I take this method of <lb />
erroneous reports and to further state that the <lb />
physicians our town have the thoroughly under con- <lb />
troll, and no one need have any fear whatever. Greenville is not <lb />
under quarantine and has no need to every one who desires <lb />
to do so can come to Greenville with perfect safety as all the re- <lb />
ports in regard to smallpox in Greenville are erroneous <lb />
and absolutely without foundation. <lb />
