At Wilmington where the call was <lb />

his championship of saloons, what <lb />
will his posterity find of which to <lb />
be proud. This is the tragedy it. <lb />
A new town has recently been laid <lb />
out the Southern railroad in Mis- <lb />
and named after <lb />
the governor. This name was for- <lb />
warded to the post office authorities <lb />
at Washington, and application <lb />
its confirmation as the pro- <lb />
per name of the i <lb />
This has been refused <lb />
and <lb />
surrounding attribute the <lb />
refusal to the fact that is <lb />
objectionable to the president and to <lb />
he <lb />
The stirred Op, and if <lb />
the refusal is persisted in a <lb />
Washington to know <lb />
why they-can their chief <lb />
executive. <lb />
The the business <lb />
their of <lb />
trouble in and use this <lb />
means to vindicate their wrath <lb />
Governor If the. name <lb />
doubt it would have met the <lb />
of the officials of the <lb />
department, and would have been <lb />
confirmed <lb />
However, the Mississippi <lb />
are. pot going to swallow the Black <lb />
pill no matter how many are <lb />
cut by the j and <lb />
the chief magistrate of the<lb />
name would come <lb />
before the St. Louis convention, <lb />
should speak, and speak plainly and <lb />
clearly on all the great questions of <lb />
th e day, spite of their protest <lb />
their smiles and their tears the <lb />
was maintained up to the hour <lb />
of the judge's <lb />
No it is conceded by all brave <lb />
and liberal minded men that the <lb />
c pursued by Judge Parker <lb />
was the safest and wisest course he <lb />
could have and that he had <lb />
a perfect right to keep his mouth <lb />
shut. <lb />
Then after the great convention <lb />
met, appointed a platform committee, <lb />
and that committee held several <lb />
meetings, carefully considered all <lb />
questions of interest, formulated a <lb />
platform and submitted it to the <lb />
convention, where it was discussed <lb />
at some length by the thousand <lb />
sturdy of the great <lb />
democratic party, and adopted by an <lb />
overwhelming majority, and after <lb />
the same great convention had <lb />
Judge Parker on the first <lb />
lot for president of the United States <lb />
the judge immediately broke his <lb />
long and painful silence by sending <lb />
a ringing message by wire to the <lb />
boys, his views on one great <lb />
question upon which the convention <lb />
had maintained as profound a silence <lb />
as that complained of in Judge Par- <lb />
This conduct on the part of <lb />
the great New York jurist was <lb />
severely at the time, but <lb />
now it is generally conceded by <lb />
friend and foe that this was the <lb />
wisest move that could possibly have <lb />
been made, and that the judge had <lb />
a perfect right to make the move. <lb />
And it Judge Parker could have been <lb />
content to stop with this he would <lb />
have stood before the American <lb />
people as an ideal candidate for the <lb />
highest position in the world today- <lb />
But now Judge Parker <lb />
ed with a very serious offense. Ac- <lb />
cording to a report going the round <lb />
of the press his horse broke out of <lb />
his stable one night recently, and <lb />
in his effort to get him back into the <lb />
to the published <lb />
report, Judge Parker, the wise states- <lb />
man, the learned jurist, the superb <lb />
nominee for president of the United <lb />
States, actually used a <lb />
Oil <lb />
of it pen of <lb />
of Pitt county, of North Carolina, <lb />
of the United States, used <lb />
lantern Let Judge Parker main- <lb />
silence if he wishes, it is his <lb />
let hint his mind on the <lb />
question if he wishes, that is <lb />
his-right, but we draw the line at <lb />
the use his <lb />
horse in the he must folly <lb />
explain this unfortunate matter or <lb />
resign his candidacy. It is a serious <lb />
matter. <lb />
A large number of <lb />
are now on the <lb />
Greenville market. <lb />
When we consider the size of our <lb />
town, the amount of done <lb />
here, and the and zeal of our <lb />
people, we are surprised, that so <lb />
many f n, their <lb />
present condition. <lb />
Then let us get together and <lb />
make our streets compare with some <lb />
of the elegant homes built on them. <lb />

TOBACCO MARKET OPENED. <lb />
Fine Beginning of New Season, <lb />
The Greenville tobacco market <lb />
began the new today <lb />
most favorable conditions. <lb />
sales were not large, but this was <lb />
as expected, the farmers being <lb />
nearly a month later in their <lb />
curing than last year. <lb />
An encouraging feature of the <lb />
sale was the good prices that <lb />
being fully fifty per cent, <lb />
higher that at the opening a <lb />
year ago. Most the <lb />
today were first primings, yet the <lb />
prices ranged from to cents <lb />
which was very gratifying to the <lb />
sellers. Smokers or first primings, <lb />
green or dark, to 1-2 cents; <lb />
bright and clean smokers to <lb />
cents; and cutters <lb />
to cent. <lb />
The first sale at the Farmers <lb />
warehouse, proceeding through <lb />
other regular order. <lb />
There is a good force of buyers on <lb />
the market and they are going to <lb />
keep prices here up to the best. <lb />
As business is expected to be <lb />
light the first mouth of the <lb />
season the warehouses have not <lb />
