District Deputy Grand Chancellor <lb />
L. Hackney, of the Knights <lb />

of this section instituted a <lb />
lodge at Canton. One of the can ii- <lb />

the second when ho refused to go <lb />
further and demanded his <lb />
be refunded to him before leaving <lb />
the hall. Little attention was paid <lb />
to the demand, it was thought <lb />
that Curtis would ether drop the <lb />
matter or conclude taking his rank. <lb />
Several days after the incident at <lb />
Canton, and after Mr. Hackney had <lb />
returned to Asheville, he received a <lb />
letter in which the writer stated that <lb />
the must be returned or there <lb />
would be trouble, but nothing has <lb />
since been heard of the matter until <lb />

him with assault on Curtis, and <lb />

A writer in the current Harper's <lb />

a magnificent contribution of <lb />
the southern soil to the nationAl <lb />
prosperity. The United States <lb />

are realized next year's exports, <lb />
even at ten cents or somewhat be- <lb />
low, may turn a still greater volume <lb />

Although Dex-ember options drop- <lb />

Commenting on the above, The <lb />

what the southern farmer i most <lb />
concerned in is the price of the raw <lb />

with it increased <lb />

sold at a fair price means much <lb />
more to the south than <lb />
bales sold for as much less as to <lb />
make the two sums <lb />
Of course, viewing the matter <lb />

each bale, it is desirable that prices <lb />
go as high as possible, and yet there <lb />
is much to be said in favor of a <lb />
large crop at a fair price as against <lb />

Fine Cotton Crop Ruined. <lb />
Laurinburg, June ll.-A record- <lb />

yesterday afternoon be- <lb />

an hour. The hailstones <lb />
were drifted from one to two feet <lb />
deep and were five to six inches <lb />
deep on the level. Hail was still <lb />
on the ground this morning. The <lb />
I growing crops in its path, <lb />
pally cotton, were totally ruined <lb />
Its sweep was some three miles <lb />
wide, and is known to have been <lb />
miles in length. The damage <lb />
cannot be safely estimated. <lb />
