Wilmington Messenger, <lb />
The longer we live and the more <lb />
observation we have the more con- <lb />
we are that a borne paper is <lb />
worth a dozen foreign <lb />
published in other <lb />
though they o furnished at fifty <lb />
cents a year and are large enough <lb />
to cover a double-bed of the old <lb />
style pattern. <lb />
We have this to say to the public i <lb />
We care not if you get a New York, <lb />
Atlanta or Louisville paper at ten <lb />
cents a year you cannot do without <lb />
North Carolina papers. <lb />
Wipe the more or less, <lb />
papers published in North Carolina <lb />
now, and let our people look to New <lb />
York and other cities for their read- <lb />
and yon will be poor indeed. <lb />
We verily believe that in five years <lb />
every interest would languish. We <lb />
verily believe that in five years the <lb />
pride State would become a <lb />
of the past, and historic memories <lb />
and the glories that cluster around <lb />
the name of North Carolina would <lb />
fade into nothingness and the <lb />
and ancestral faiths <lb />
become a byword and a reproach or <lb />
be cherished only by a faithful <lb />
souls who lived among their books <lb />
or recalled the crucial days when <lb />
brave hearts stood up for right and <lb />
all for altars and fireside. <lb />
Yon can not do without your true, <lb />
faithful, unfaltering, honest, wide- <lb />
awake North Carolina home paper. <lb />
You will lose all that buoys and en- <lb />
livens and stirs the heart as a <lb />
pet if you cease to sustain home pa <lb />
Do not wander off after false <lb />
gods and false lights. There is <lb />
scarcely a sound Democratic paper <lb />

of papers. <lb />
World and Star are better papers, <lb />
but we would not like to take our <lb />
politics from either. are in no <lb />
sense Southern, and by no means <lb />
North Carolinian. <lb />
No New York paper cares the <lb />
snap a linger for anything that <lb />
concerns the past history of North <lb />
Carolina or of its people. They are <lb />
any time to publish any <lb />
that reflects upon the South <lb />

They are big <lb />
but what of ill They are not <lb />
Southern. They are Northern in <lb />
essence. They look at the Southern <lb />
whites always stained glass. <lb />
never see our people as <lb />
are. <lb />
What do Richmond or Atlanta or <lb />
Louisville papers care for North <lb />

guilty. One of the favorite topics <lb />
that engages the attention of many <lb />
of these extreme sectionalism, is the <lb />
treatment the receives <lb />
at the hands of the Southern whites. <lb />
In the discussions of this matter, <lb />
facts are not, sought after, nor is <lb />
the testimony himself <lb />

are accepted as true, and even these <lb />
are magnified by the flexible <lb />

very little of the tax supports <lb />
the public school systems of the <lb />
Southern States, and yet, in many <lb />
instances, he receives the larger <lb />
portion of the public school fund. <lb />
As we write, we have before <lb />
the apportionment of the school <lb />
fund for Craven county, recently <lb />
made by the Comity Board of <lb />
The white schools of the <lb />
county receives 9950.51. while the <lb />

to show what is done for the <lb />

The kindness with which the <lb />
have been treated by <lb />

Southern whites have done for their <lb />

of American citizenship, is without <lb />
a parallel in the history of the world <lb />

their beneficiaries show no signs of <lb />
