the wish of his heart. He <lb />
has been nominated Minister to <lb />
France. His appointment has <lb />
stirred up considerable feeling <lb />
among a class of <lb />
cans who have never forgiven him <lb />
or the Tribune for supporting <lb />
in It is also remembered that <lb />
in in his fight on Blaine <lb />
the Mulligan letters and <lb />
everything discreditable to <lb />
Blaine that, he could get hold of. <lb />
However, if Blaine can forgive him, <lb />
all others may hold their peace. <lb />
Wanamaker poses as head of the <lb />
Department but <lb />
is expected to do the work. The <lb />
office of the Postmaster General is <lb />
nothing more than the private <lb />
office John Wanamaker's <lb />
store. The two are <lb />
by a private telegraph wire so <lb />
that may be kept in- <lb />
formed as to the state of business <lb />
at the cent and other <lb />
bargain departments of his estate <lb />
A gentleman who has <lb />
known Wanamaker intimately for <lb />
many years says of his appointment <lb />
to the Cabinet; John Wanamaker <lb />
I the value of newspaper ad- <lb />
I better than any man <lb />
with probably <lb />
of P. T. and the whole <lb />
business from the cam- <lb />
contribution to the present <lb />
is, I am satisfied, regarded by him <lb />
as a strictly business transaction <lb />
whereby ho pays out so much <lb />
and obtains in return an <lb />
of valuable <lb />
every newspaper in the <lb />
States. He don't care a snap <lb />
about being Postmaster General <lb />
except for the newspaper <lb />
it gives him. When his name <lb />
begins to drop oat of the papers <lb />
the coming dull season, I ex- <lb />
to see him create a big <lb />
by some sort a row <lb />
t Cabinet and then resigning, <lb />
thus giving himself another boom <lb />
the advertising line. <lb />
maker's first appointments were ex- <lb />
Postmaster General of <lb />
to be Assistant Attorney Gen- <lb />
for the Department <lb />
and J- Bell, of Pennsylvania, <lb />
to he Superintendent of the Rail- <lb />
way Mail Service. <lb />
The Republican <lb />
are already disgusted with Harri- <lb />
