Colonel Elmer Ellsworth demanded <lb />
of him that it lie pulled town. <lb />
Jackson refused, and Ellsworth <lb />
climbed the stairs hauled it <lb />
down with his own hands. As <lb />
Ellsworth came down with the <lb />
flag, Jackson shot him. That, it <lb />
is said, was the Confederate flag's <lb />
first baptism of <lb />
