S. Pauling a. in. Tuesday from <lb/>
inlet as she was <lb/>
In r anchor and being rapidly <lb/>
carried inshore by I lie seventy-mile <lb/>
gale and tide was <lb/>
Ar tin same time all hands of <lb/>
the seventy-six men. four officers an <lb/>
three boys, that had been taken <lb/>
aboard from a small boat that founder <lb/>
ed shortly afterwards, were summon- <lb/>
ed on deck and ordered to put on life <lb/>
preservers. <lb/>
While Ibis was being done the <lb/>
boat was passing over a sand- <lb/>
bar and occasionally touching bottom, <lb/>
when the shock of contact with <lb/>
solid and the surging of waves <lb/>
made ii almost impossible to main- <lb/>
a footing. Surf was going over <lb/>
slack the <lb/>
and proximity of shore made It <lb/>
possible that she would strike <lb/>
break up. <lb/>
It so d, however, that the <lb/>
waves and tide permitted the vessel <lb/>
in in and she is now riding- high <lb/>
in the sands off <lb/>
about one-half mile out from Mill <lb/>
station. <lb/>
The Pauling is now lying high on <lb/>
the beach in Inlet in six <lb/>
feet of water and with six feel of her <lb/>
hull under the sand. An Inspection <lb/>
Tuesday showed her port <lb/>
I is under sand and the other <lb/>
is free. Captain Holmes of Cape <lb/>
Henry Life Saving reported <lb/>
when he came in at Ibis after- <lb/>
noon that the vessel is resting safely <lb/>
ml is making no water. From her <lb/>
present position is thought she is <lb/>
ill no danger of breaking up and <lb/>
will be possible to float her in time <lb/>

December 7th, <lb/>
The idea of Society in giving <lb/>
this pageant, is lo give to the school <lb/>
community something that is In- <lb/>
spiring and educational. <lb/>
The dominating principles which the <lb/>
society considered in its selection <lb/>
were, historical picturesque <lb/>
setting, and poetic beauty. <lb/>
The world is fast awakening to a <lb/>
life. The point of the story Is more <lb/>
easily followed with aid of the <lb/>
scenery, and <lb/>
of the pageant than in any other <lb/>
method of representation. <lb/>
The Edgar Allan Society hopes <lb/>
to make this performance one of the <lb/>
most artistic efforts that the Training <lb/>
School has ever presented. <lb/>
Those who witnessed the Colonial <lb/>
Pageant presented by the History De- <lb/>
of the Training School on <lb/>
February 22nd, of last year, got only <lb/>
a foretaste of tin beauty and grandeur <lb/>
which the Edgar Allan roe Society <lb/>
hopes to give the public in the <lb/>

OF VITAL STATISTICS <lb/>
The Bureau is a <lb/>
comparatively recent addition to the <lb/>
of the Hoard of Health <lb/>
having been put into operation the <lb/>
of the year. II i one of the <lb/>
important and useful bureaus it. <lb/>
the entire State. The purposes <lb/>
Bureau i lo keep an accurate <lb/>
list Of the births and deaths <lb/>
in the State. The records kept by <lb/>
this are of use to almost <lb/>
at some time or other, especially <lb/>
in matters requiring exact dates and <lb/>
other information not kepi. <lb/>
I , means of this bureau we are able to <lb/>
determine the death rate and <lb/>
rate for State. In legal matters <lb/>
such statistics very often arc of ex- <lb/>
importance for they furnish re- <lb/>
liable and complete information. <lb/>
we give the number of births <lb/>
and deaths reported the Bureau <lb/>
been In force. <lb/>
There were births reported up <lb/>
lo October of which were while <lb/>
and colored. <lb/>
The deaths reported for <lb/>

for Greenville . <lb/>

THAT ARE HELD ABROAD <lb/>
Washington, Not Statistics have <lb/>
been gathered which show that over <lb/>
five billions in American railroad <lb/>
stocks and bonds are held abroad. In <lb/>
response to inquiries directed to <lb/>
ii an roads, replies have been received <lb/>
from and estimating from the, <lb/>
figures quoted, which were based by <lb/>
the roads on the dividend checks, the <lb/>
round of five billions were <lb/>
reached. <lb/>
Tho Importance of this fact at this <lb/>
time Is that these Immense foreign <lb/>
holdings from the stumbling block to <lb/>
the reopening of security ex- <lb/>

prevent free and open trading. <lb/>
Foreigners In the troubled zone <lb/>

Washington, C, Nov. <lb/>
of many trade currents and es- <lb/>
of substantial export <lb/>
balance by American commerce in <lb/>
October was indicated la Statement <lb/>
Issued by the Treasury department. <lb/>
Telegraphic reports from cities <lb/>
which handle about per cent of <lb/>
the country's export trade, showed <lb/>
that from October to 31st, <lb/>
a trade balance of more n <lb/>
was established. <lb/>
If figure from the remaining ports <lb/>
show same proportions, tho <lb/>
gain over the export balance tor <lb/>
September will amount to more <lb/>
Part of the increase was <lb/>
ascribed to cotton shipments which <lb/>
had been almost by <lb/>
European upheaval. During the week <lb/>
ending October 18th, bales of <lb/>
cotton w-re exported. On last Thurs- <lb/>
day alone, bales were sent <lb/>

Total exports from the principal <lb/>
Cities October 5th to amount <lb/>
to imports <lb/>
