of a county home, which shall <lb />
be a credit to the county and a com- <lb />
place for its inmate. The <lb />
present old out of date buildings have <lb />
been pronounced by grand juries and <lb />
judges a disgrace to the county <lb />
so say we. <lb />
As a stimulus to action we beg <lb />

The following extract from an ex- <lb />

The of Wheeler and Stern are <lb />
work on plans for the Iredell <lb />
county home, which is to be built at <lb />
Barium Springs. The plans call for <lb />
nine buildings, and these will be sit- <lb />
i on a shady knoll facing the <lb />
railroad, giving a splendid view of <lb />
the surrounding country. <lb />
There will be three large buildings <lb />
and a few cottages, together with a <lb />
bu ling for the insane and an <lb />
About the center of the plot <lb />
will be situated the dining hall. This <lb />
building will contain separate dining <lb />
loom for the superintendent and on <lb />
each for the colored and white in- <lb />
mates, and pantries. The <lb />
basement will be equipped with <lb />
heating plant, pump and artesian <lb />
well and laundry and storage room. <lb />
Directly in front of the dining hall <lb />
will be the building for the white in- <lb />
and the superintendent. The <lb />
rooms will be made to accommodate <lb />
one, two. three and four Inmates each. <lb />
There will be locker rooms, toilet and <lb />
bath rooms. The building will have <lb />
two large living rooms, one each for <lb />
the men and women, and around the <lb />
house will numerous spacious <lb />
porches. The other large building <lb />
will be back of the dining hall, and <lb />
will he for the colored inmates of the <lb />
home. This building will be arranged <lb />
In the same order and have about the <lb />
same accommodations as the building <lb />
for the white Inmates. Both buildings <lb />
for the inmates will be two stories <lb />
high, while the dining hall will be <lb />
only one story with a basement. <lb />
To the right of the dining hall and <lb />
facing the north will be situated the <lb />
Insane asylum, and directly opposite <lb />
the dining room, facing the south, <lb />
will be the infirmary building. The <lb />
present plans call for two cottages <lb />
which will be erected In diagonal ac- <lb />
to the dining hall. Each cottage <lb />
will contain two bedrooms, bath, <lb />
room and porch. The lay out calls <lb />
for two additional cottages which will <lb />
be erected at some future date, and <lb />
will be erected on the opposite <lb />
access to the dining hall. <lb />
All the buildings will be of brick, <lb />
and will be modern and up to date in <lb />
every particular and as convenient as <lb />
possible. <lb />
The plans will be completed within <lb />
three or four weeks and work will <lb />
commence as soon afterwards as the <lb />
bids can be taken and the contract let. <lb />

The lower house of the legislature <lb />
has passed the bill making <lb />
for five years between husband <lb />
end wife ground for divorce, giving <lb />
both the privilege to marry <lb />
The senate should kill this bill. <lb />
President-elect does like <lb />
a silk hat, but says he may have to <lb />
conform to custom long enough lo <lb />
wear one while reviewing the <lb />
parade. <lb />
It is safer to leave money In the <lb />
banks than Is to be wearing t <lb />
around In your pockets. A few days <lb />
ago an county man cash- <lb />
ed a draft In one of the Tar- <lb />
banks. With the wad tucked <lb />
in his pocket he concluded lo pay <lb />
up a few bills before leaving town, <lb />

Mr. E. C. Duncan has offered lo <lb />
lay the state's Interest In the At- <lb />
and North Carolina railroad at <lb />
or per cent of its par <lb />
value. <lb />
If the search and seizure law Is <lb />
passed by the legislature, there <lb />
stay In the bank and given checks , . . ., ., <lb />
some places in Greenville that will <lb />
on it to pay his bills, he would have <lb />
been saved from the serious loss. <lb />
A cabinet maker fixed <lb />
up a story at Miami. Fla., where <lb />
J. Bryan has his winter home, <lb />
and over the country <lb />
Mr. Bryan had declared that he would <lb />
accept the position of secretary of <lb />
state in President-elect Wilson's cab- <lb />
that a man from Trenton, <lb />
N J, who called on Mr. Bryan, had <lb />
Just left Miami and was hurrying <lb />
back to Trenton to convey mes- <lb />
sage of acceptance to Mr. Wilson. <lb />
And Mr. Bryan conies out with a <lb />
statement that the story Is without <lb />
foundation. The busy-bodies can real- <lb />

Representative H. A. Page, of Moore <lb />

a bill to allow county commission- <lb />

county. The committee having the <lb />
