his trial before that Justice was, for <lb />
some reason postponed. When next <lb />
he was scheduled to appear, he could <lb />
not be found. A little later his bonds- <lb />
man came before the Clerk of Court <lb />
and paid the bond. At the time he <lb />
said he was glad to pay and be done <lb />
with It. <lb />
Yesterday this bondsman, Mr. N. <lb />
O. More, represented by Mr. J. E. <lb />
Woodard appeared before honor <lb />
Judge Justice and surrendered Owen <lb />
to the sheriff. The question arose <lb />
as to whether the bondsman was en- <lb />
titled to his or not. Solicitor <lb />
Abernathy contended that the <lb />
bond forfeited Mr. Moore could not <lb />
have it back and after a great deal <lb />
of arguing the Judge ordered the bond <lb />
returned all costs had been de- <lb />

Mr. John Forbes, u well known and <lb />

The public school at Shivers Hill, <lb />
near Falkland closed Friday. There <lb />
no public exercises, but there <lb />

his native county and was elected <lb />

he also served the county on the <lb />
board of commissioners. <lb />
in 1867. he married Miss <lb />
Susan E. Sugg, the widow and six <lb />
children surviving him. These are <lb />
Messrs. F. C. Harding, of Greenville; <lb />
W. F. Harding and H. P. Harding, <lb />
of Charlotte; J. B. Harding, of Mex- <lb />
Miss Bessie Harding, of Green- <lb />
ville and Mrs. II. T. Latham, of <lb />
Washington. He also leaves one <lb />
brother. Rev. Nathaniel Harding, of <lb />
Washington. <lb />
Major Harding moved to Green- <lb />
ville In 1885 and spent his remaining <lb />
years here, where he was a most <lb />
useful and honored citizen. He <lb />
ed as superintendent of public In- <lb />
of Pitt county for one term, <lb />
was register of deeds for two years <lb />
and for many years a Justice of the <lb />
peace. <lb />
He delighted In reviving the <lb />
of the Confederacy and for the <lb />
last several years was commander of <lb />
Bryan Grimes Camp of Confederate <lb />
Veterans, always taking active part <lb />
in the annual reunions on the 10th <lb />
of May. <lb />
Major Harding was an active Ma- <lb />
son, devoted to the principles of that <lb />
ancient fraternity, was several times <lb />
Worshipful Master of Greenville <lb />
Lodge and when Sharon Lodge was <lb />
revived became the first Master of <lb />
that lodge and held that position at <lb />
the time of his death. He was <lb />
senior warden of the vestry of St. <lb />
Paul's Episcopal church and a lay <lb />
reader of the church. He leaves his J <lb />
family and friends the priceless her-. <lb />
of an honored name. <lb />
His remains were interred in Cher-; <lb />
Hill cemetery this afternoon with <lb />
Masonic honors. <lb />
