PUT OFFICERS ON SALARIES <lb />
Aid With Resolution of <lb />
Township, Feb. <lb />
Editor <lb />
Please allow me f pace in your <lb />
columns to mil the attention of <lb />
the people of Pitt county, and <lb />
especially our representatives <lb />
nor in the legislature, to one <lb />
fact. <lb />
The governor of our State gets <lb />
a salary of a year. The <lb />
Supreme and Superior court <lb />
judges get Our Superior <lb />
court clerk gets something near <lb />
in fees. Our <lb />
dent public schools gets a <lb />
salary of Our sheriff <lb />
gets or mote in fees, reg- <lb />
of deeds or more in <lb />
and treasurer near <lb />
in commissions. <lb />
Why should some of these <lb />
county officers get more the <lb />
services rendered than our gov- <lb />
or judges, or clerk, or <lb />
superintendent Why not obey <lb />
the resolution of the last Demo- <lb />
county convention to <lb />
county officers, which <lb />
introduced and passed without a <lb />
dissenting vote, that the officers <lb />
be placed on salaries <lb />
with the services <lb />
rendered Why should the <lb />
wishes of the people be so dis- <lb />
regarded <lb />
If a law is passed placing <lb />
the officers of county on <lb />
salary and take what is left in <lb />
lees, I truly believe it will <lb />
amount to a year. Create <lb />
a sinking fund of this and use <lb />
said fund for the purpose of pay- <lb />
off and discharging the <lb />

in less than eight years without <lb />
costing the tax payers one cent. <lb />
Or we can create. sinking <lb />

of it could be paid off in less <lb />

help support a rest room for the <lb />
benefit of the women who come <lb />

this appropriation added to the <lb />

waste of time to argue the ad- <lb />

The King's Daughters should <lb />
have sufficient help to establish <lb />
it. <lb />
Of course we want to see <lb />
Greenville going forward and <lb />
would like for the town to have <lb />
a municipal building, but Mayor <lb />
Whedbee did exactly right in <lb />
casting the deciding vote against <lb />
the building being erected just <lb />
now with the present condition <lb />
of the town's There <lb />
is already something like <lb />
floating indebtedness against <lb />
the town, and the legislature <lb />
will be applied to for authority <lb />
to issue short term bonds to pay <lb />
this amount, and that debt <lb />
should be out of the way before <lb />
other large expenditures are <lb />

the secrecy which is being main- <lb />
in regard to the by <lb />
all parties concerned. The facts, <lb />
as stated above, however, are <lb />
from hand and the story is <lb />
an altogether interesting one. <lb />
It is expected that there will be <lb />
further developments, as the <lb />
earnestness of the young people, <lb />
both of whom are intelligent and <lb />
the average, is expected <lb />
to result in still further <lb />
