A newspaper shields no <lb />
wrong that ought to be exposed, <lb />
and stops at no truth that ought <lb />
to be uttered. <lb />
A good newspaper dues not <lb />
lend itself to the making of <lb />
strife between citizens, neither <lb />
rages like a demagogue nor <lb />
sweeps like a charlatan. <lb />
A good newspaper has ideals, <lb />
believes in progress, and wins its <lb />
way by courage, plain speaking <lb />

A newspaper assembles <lb />

A good newspaper Knows no <lb />

A good newspaper is rim on <lb />

if that is its sole aim. <lb />
A newspaper takes a <lb />

Mr. Edgar Worthington and <lb />
Miss Florence Sugg were married <lb />
at the home of the bride's mother <lb />
near here, Wednesday evening, <lb />
by Rev. T. H. King, of Winter <lb />
ville. We <lb />
J. R. Smith Co. Dixon have <lb />
a nice lot of coffins and caskets <lb />
on hand and can furnish hearse <lb />
when desired. Give them a call <lb />
when in of any of their <lb />
goods. has a good sup <lb />
ply of first class wagons, a few <lb />
good buggies, and are run over <lb />
mailing hogsheads and repairing. <lb />
Truly Ed Garris, the manager, <lb />
is a busy man. <lb />
That Rev. H. E. Tripp, who has <lb />
been in charge of the Methodist <lb />
church hero for the past year has <lb />
been assigned to another field is <lb />
a source of regret not only among <lb />
the members of his own church, <lb />
but to nave him leave is sincerely <lb />
regretted by all. Mr. Tripp is <lb />
not only a good preacher, but by <lb />
his conduct and sociability has <lb />
rendered himself extremely <lb />
pleasant with every one else and <lb />
all join us in wishing him in his <lb />
new Held abundant success and <lb />
the greatest blessings. <lb />

Found Among <lb />
Various Nations. <lb />
There i great diversity in the <lb />
methods of sleeping among people <lb />
of different nation-, indeed, tho <lb />
things necessary to procure sloop for <lb />
one individual frequently to <lb />
jut things dial would keep <lb />
another awake all night. <lb />
The European or American in or- <lb />
m sleep well ordinarily requires <lb />
n soft pillow under head, but tho <lb />
Japanese, stretching himself on o , <lb />
rush mat on tho Boor, put- a <lb />
square of wood under his <lb />
head and doe not sleep Well if ho <lb />
docs not have it. <lb />
The Chinese makes a great to do <lb />
in the matter of his bed. which is j <lb />
very low, indeed scarcely rising <lb />
from the floor, hut is often carved <lb />
exquisitely of wood, and it never <lb />
occurs to him to make it any softer <lb />
than rush mats will render it. <lb />
While the people of tho northern <lb />
countries cannot sleep unless they <lb />
have plenty of room in which to <lb />
stretch their legs, the inhabitants <lb />
of tho tropics often curl themselves <lb />
up like monkeys at the lower angle <lb />
of o suspended hammock and sleep <lb />
soundly that way. <lb />
The robust American will cover <lb />
himself with a pair of blankets and <lb />
throw his window open to the air <lb />
even in the dead of winter, and he <lb />
will not sometimes complain if <lb />
there is a little drift of snow across <lb />
the sill in the morning. <lb />
The Russian, on the contrary, <lb />
likes no sleeping place so well as <lb />
the top of the big snap-tone stove <lb />
in his domicile. Crawling out of <lb />
this blistering bed in the morning, <lb />
he likes to take n plunge in a cold <lb />
stream, even if ho has to break <lb />
through ice to do so. <lb />
While the American clings to his <lb />
feather pillow, he has long since dis- <lb />
carded his old fashioned featherbed <lb />
in favor of the hair or straw or felt <lb />
mattress. The feather bed has been <lb />
relegated to the country, and many <lb />
people that slept on it in their <lb />
childhood found it unendurable in <lb />
their later years. <lb />
The Germans not only sleep on a <lb />
feather bed, but underneath one as <lb />
well. The feather covering used in <lb />
Germany, however, is not so large <lb />
or thick as the one used as a mat- <lb />
tress, and the foreigner that under- <lb />
takes to sleep beneath it often finds <lb />
his feet suffering from cold while <lb />
his shoulders are suffering from <lb />

All the peoples in the world have <lb />
been given to marking the coming <lb />
of age of their young folk with <lb />
some kind of ceremonial. In <lb />
Africa this is quite serious <lb />
business. A few of the customs in <lb />
use among certain tribes are <lb />
But in the main they show a <lb />
kind of good sense. <lb />
Among the Van people the <lb />
in all the initiation or <lb />
coming of age mysteries is a man <lb />
rattler the tails. He <lb />
makes play with a bunch of wildcat <lb />
tails, wildcats being creatures which <lb />
play a leading part in the witch <lb />
doctor's medicines. This official <lb />
communicates all kinds of <lb />
edge to the young ideas of his tribe <lb />
during the couple of months de- <lb />
voted to their initiation ceremonies. <lb />
lie lectures on the customs of the <lb />
tribe and on morals. He teaches <lb />
unselfishness, for instance, and <lb />
among these tribes man who re- <lb />
fuses to share his food with <lb />
is jeered as <lb />
During these ceremonies the <lb />
boys receive new names, and if you <lb />
want to insult them past all for- <lb />
you have merely to address <lb />
them by their childhood's names <lb />
after they have passed through the <lb />
initiation ceremonies. <lb />
The or period of <lb />

I teaching as to agriculture and <lb />
household work, the grinding of <lb />

ceremonies in use are purely <lb />
as when the girls are made <lb />
to support a house roof to indicate <lb />
that they are to be the pillars of <lb />
their future homes. But there is <lb />
also much practical teaching, in- <lb />

cranberries are a laxative and liver <lb />

Cranberries are keepers, like the <lb />
