pounds is a considerable fall off <lb />
with a market like Richmond <lb />
that never sold at its best, but <lb />
about eleven millions pounds- <lb />
There are some facts on record <lb />
the origin and <lb />
growth the Richmond market <lb />
that would interesting reading <lb />
matter to some f our North Car <lb />
tobacconists. <lb />
There is a considerable squab- <lb />
now going between the <lb />
Carolina markets, the <lb />
Danville Ya., markets, or rather <lb />
by the newspapers of these <lb />
places. The Car <lb />
Messenger has some Very <lb />

some allegations about the Dan- <lb />

All of this kind of stuff will <lb />

up nor does Danville in our <lb />
ion need such notoriety and th <lb />
Journal need not remind the <lb />
world that Danville is the largest <lb />
tobacco in it. <lb />
already know it. <lb />
We have been to the <lb />
Exposition and have returned all <lb />
safe and sound. Aside from <lb />
pleasure of the the trio in <lb />
through the splendid <lb />
try traversed by the Atlantic <lb />
as it was, in the grain fields of <lb />
the in a few <lb />
mountains, them were traversing <lb />
the cotton fields of the black <lb />
lauds of Arkansas. Getting tired <lb />
of this we stepped the land <lb />
of sunshine flowers. Florida <lb />
truly has placed its great natural <lb />
advantages before the world by <lb />
the creditable exhibit that it is <lb />
at the Slates and <lb />
International Exposition. <lb />
After a partial tour of <lb />
the different States and <lb />
the attractive products of North <lb />
Carolina scattered around here <lb />
and there, anywhere, among the <lb />
rush of thoughts that come to our <lb />
mind was what a golden <lb />
of advertising our natural <lb />
advantages to the world has been <lb />
neglected- But notwithstanding <lb />
the which <lb />
our people who made exhibits <lb />
labored, the products of the State <lb />
the individual exhibits were <lb />
year j equal to those of any other <lb />
was and it was frequently re- <lb />
marked that if we had had a <lb />
ours would have been <lb />
the best exhibit <lb />
We have frequently noticed a <lb />
tendency on part of -me <lb />
to Want to ship their to <lb />

their judgment dictates a different <lb />

he thought he could git just <lb />

said he, by taking a lot off <lb />
I may get some prices as <lb />
to get me and <lb />
others to continue patronizing <lb />

sometimes by some <lb />
with certain men, but lake our <lb />
word for what it is worth we have <lb />
watched closely the shipped to <lb />

we are yet to hoar the first man <lb />
who is a regular patron of any <lb />

shipping his . Now just <lb />
word here to those who <lb />
the habit of shipping occasion <lb />
ally. Suppose every man were to <lb />
treat his home market that way <lb />
of them. The writer for one <lb />
would not rest co-tented to re- <lb />
a warehouse a market <lb />
unless we ha as good buyers as <lb />
there were to be found if we <lb />
didn't have them why we would <lb />
go to and get them. Green- <lb />
ville has good corps of buyers <lb />
as there are in the State we <lb />
make t ins appeal to every farmer <lb />
to give his home market a chance <lb />
at his tobacco. If you don't like <lb />
y carry it to another, <lb />
lived have four here M good as <lb />
how would we <lb />
be giving <lb />
established home market for <lb />
your products. And we want to say <lb />
there are in the State and among <lb />
us we know you can be satisfied <lb />
Lets all push for Greenville and <lb />
it the largest market in the <lb />
State. <lb />
There will be no tobacco sales <lb />
Friday, circus day- <lb />
There are more regular buyers <lb />
following the sales in Greenville <lb />
a a other eastern North <lb />
Carolina market- <lb />
Tobacco is selling well and <lb />
good tobacco especially is away <lb />
up during the last few days- <lb />
Those who have wrappers can <lb />
now begin bringing them on. <lb />
We are asked what <lb />
per of crop has been <lb />
sold, we have ask- <lb />
ed that question. From the <lb />
points of information we should <lb />
say that about per of the <lb />
crop has sold, and our can- <lb />
did is per cent- <lb />
of the brightest has already been <lb />
marketed. <lb />
For the past few years we have <lb />
been our people that we <lb />
had the finest bright tobacco <lb />
section in the world- <lb />

Just stop, think, consider where you can <lb />
best protect your interest in <lb />
of your Tobacco crop. <lb />
For four year we have worked hard and spent our money in building <lb />
and placing the Greenville Tobacco Market in the front rank of the <lb />
Markets of the world. Since Greenville had a To- <lb />
warehouse we have been on the grounds working day and night <lb />
to acquire the best possible knowledge of how to sell the farmers <lb />
co to the best advantage and now after four years of difficult toil we <lb />
want to say to all who have tobacco to sell that we believe we are in a <lb />
better position than any Warehouse firm in Easter i Carolina to <lb />
get the highest market price for your product. So with this we make <lb />
our politest bow asking for a continuance and an increase of your pat- <lb />
only upon the strictest business merit. We have no special pets <lb />
to whom fancy prices are given at the expense of less favored ones but <lb />
our undivided personal attention is given to every pile of your Tobacco <lb />
and if your interest should at any time be neglected our attention only <lb />
needs to be called to it and cheerfully and willingly all wrongs will be <lb />
righted. Our opinion is that Tobacco is selling very well for the <lb />
l j offered and from now on we expect a lively market. So when you <lb />
get ready to sell just hook up and drive straight to the old reliable <lb />
headquarters for high prices, good averages and all <lb />
round courteous treatment. <lb />

a word about North Carolina. No <lb />
Tar Heel can visit the Exposition <lb />
without a feeling of shame when <lb />
he sees the result of the niggard- <lb />
of our last Legislature in <lb />
refusing to make an appropriation <lb />
for a State display. True the <lb />
State is fairly well represented <lb />
and has some creditable exhibits <lb />
there, but they are mainly the <lb />
outcome of private enterprise <lb />
and are so scattered through the <lb />
different buildings as to almost <lb />
lose their effect. In the Sea- <lb />
board Air Line exhibit North <lb />
Carolina was largely drawn upon, <lb />
but that road receives and <lb />
is to the for this. <lb />
In the same building, <lb />
cultural, the R- J. Reynolds <lb />
Tobacco Co., of Winston, makes <lb />
an exhibit that is highly <lb />
I to that enterprising firm. In <lb />

Our neighbor town, Tarboro, <lb />

The Atlantic Coast Line pay <lb />

of the settled with was <lb />
a white man named Novell, keep- <lb />

Outside of Georgia, to our mind <lb />
California was the best represent <lb />

to see. A striking feature of it <lb />
is the display made by the Sea <lb />

This completes the of build <lb />

The statement is that the <lb />
of commercial in <lb />
North year de- <lb />
per cent as compared <lb />
with last year's sales. This is not <lb />
in proportion. The acreage in <lb />
cotton is supposed to have de- <lb />
creased more than that, In the <lb />
process of cheapening the pro- <lb />
of cotton it would sin-in <lb />
that the use of com- <lb />
fertilizers would have to <lb />
decline- It is a pity to see that <lb />
year this has actually in- <lb />
creased over <lb />
Perhaps this can be explained <lb />
from the fact that when the cot- <lb />
ton acreage especially <lb />
in the eastern the ac- <lb />
tobacco increased, and <lb />
tobacco requiring more fertilizer <lb />
than cotton kept sale of that <lb />
article from falling off in prop <lb />
