$1800 REWARD.

For a number of years the lower part of Chicod Township, Pitt Co., has been the scene of numerous incendiary fires and other acts of lawlessness. Of late incendiarism has been even more frequent.

On the morning of Sept. 28th, J. J. Laughinghouse lost a Gin House, Tobacco &c., this was followed on the morning of Oct. 13th, by the burning of the Tobacco Pack House of J. Bryan Grimes.

A short while since Mrs. J. H. Saunders also suffered from fires of the same origin.

In view of these aggravated offenses the Gov. of North Carolina has offered $600 reward for the apprehension of these criminals. The Board of Commissioners of Pitt Co. offer an additional $600. J. J. Laughinghouse offers $300 and J. Bryan Grimes offers $300 reward. Total $1800 reward. During the month of November the Gin House of W. L. Smith was burned with heavy loss; also the Gin House of R. T. Wilson was fired. The circumstances surrounding these cases, with such information as we can give, convince us that a shrewd, competent man can easily within a short time ferret out the author or authors of these crimes.
