				<p>This history of the Twenty-Seventh Massachusetts Regiment includes descriptions of cooperative movements and several areas in the South where they fought, especially North Carolina and Virginia.  It gives in depth battle information, including engagements at Whitehall, Goldsboro, Kinston, Rocky Hoc Creek, Gum Swamp, Dover Cross Roads, Roanoke Island, and New Bern.  It also includes several maps used by the regiment.

				<head>Author Biography</head>
				<p>William P. Derby was a Private with Company A in the Twenty-Seventh Massachusetts Regiment . As postmaster, he was in charge of all the mail in the Department of North Carolina while his regiment occupied the region. He entered service September 20, 1861 and left September 20, 1864.</p>
