Alston Grimes (25 February 1866- 20 October 1914) was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, the oldest son of General Bryan Grimes and Charlotte Emily Bryan. He studied at the Bingham School, Lynch's School, and at the University of North Carolina. He was a farmer in Pitt and Beaufort counties from adulthood until his death. He was a Mason and a member of the Greenville Chapter of Royal Arch Masons.
