<p>Located on the Pamlico River near the town of Washington, the suburb of Washington Park was developed on property purchased in 1839 by John Humphrey Small, who built a home called Cedar Grove. Around 1904 Hon. John Small named the property Washington Park and laid off streets and lots. Washington Collegiate Institute and many fine homes were built in this development.
