                <p>Slocumb gives brief details of Wayne County and ends his report with a story about a slave who was executed for poisoning her master and the indictments of many other slaves for trying to do the same.

                <head>Authory Biography</head>
                <p>Jesse Slocumb [1780-1821] was the son of Ezekiel Slocumb and Mary (Polly) Hooks of Wayne County.  He was a trustee of Waynesborough Academy in 1810, but the academy was never organized.  He served in Congress from 1817 until 1821 and died in Washington where he is buried in the Congressional Burying Ground.</p>
