	<p>By the help of Almity god I take my seat to drop you a few lines to let you no that I am wet and i hope those fu lines may find you engoying the same Blessin<note n="1" type="edit">The text "I am wet and i hope those fu lines may find you engoying the same Blessin" refers to the disastrous drought of 1863-1864 that impacted most of the South, Midwest and Western United States, especially California, killing crops and cattle.  The weather patterns that caused the drought were so widespread, countries such as Mexico, Australia and New Zealand were also severely affected.</note> I wold have wireten before this but i have bin on gard for the last four days last days four miles from camp at the ferry on the river we gut here safe we had to lay over on the rode over fair it is ruf but plenty  The compny is a most all Sick chils and fevers our crowd is [illegible text] is well so far</p>
