February 4, 1986 marks an historic moment for North Carolina as the characters and plot of "Pitch a Boogie Woogie" once again come alive on the screen. Released in 1948, "Pitch a Boogie Woogie" has earned its place in history as the only commercial production by North Carolina's first movie company, Lord-Warner Productions. This film was also produced in the state with an all Black cast of primarily local performers.

"Pitch a Boogie Woogie" provides us with a sense of postwar life in the South, filled with life and action. It is also a story of unfulfilled dreams common to every generation. In this way, "Pitch a Boogie Woogie" is an engaging blend of our past and present rooted in the culture and people of North Carolina.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JAMES G. MARTIN, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim the week of February 2 through February 8, 1986, as "Pitch a Boogie Woogie Week" in North Carolina, and commend this observance to our citizens.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capital in Raleigh this seventeenth day of January in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and eighty six, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and ninth.
