Description
Train car 600 of East Carolina Railway with two young girls in front. Handwritten caption on verso of photograph reads: "Mary Louise Webb Smart and Lucy Phillips Davis arrive in Pinetops about 1918 on 'Yellow hammer' trailer no. 600." The railway, organized in 1898 by Henry Clark Bridgers, Sr. of Tarboro, was later taken over by the Wilmington and Weldon Railroad, and also had a close relationship with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad.
