Portrait of James Yadkin Joyner. A noted educator, Joyner graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1881, served on the East Carolina Teachers Training School board of trustees, and was North Carolina's State Superintendent of Public Instruction from 1902-1919. The J. Y. Joyner Library at East Carolina University is named in his honor. Verso includes logo of the L.W.
