Ne Fack
|) Crain Song (No.7) ifr _ Dimitri Bortniansky

arr. Kenneth Downing

Like a choir of angels solemn,

Solemn gathTring through the air,

Bring we to our heav'nly Father, life bestowing,
Thrice sacred song and prayTr

Far from our hearts on this blessed day
Do we drive each earthly care away.

Like a King of All shall we praise Thee,
Thou Lord unseen, by angel bosts adored.

Hallelujah!

} ,) Think On Me FA | James Mulholland

When I no more behold thee,
Think on me,
By all thine eyes have told me,

Think on me.

When hearts are lightest,
When eyes are brightest,
When griefs are slightest

Think on me.

In all think bours of gladness,
Think on me,
If eer I soothed thy sadness,

Think on me.

When foes are by thee,
When woes are nigh thee,
When friends all fly ther
Think on me.

Think on me,
When no fond beart is near thee,

Think on me.

When lonely sighing,
Over pleasure flying,
When bope is dying,
Think on me.

Rondeau 24 Carl Zytowski
tL

Thou fool! If madness be so rife, that spite of wit, thouTlt have a wife, I'll tell thee what thou must expect;
after the honeymoon, neglect, all the sad days of thy whole life.

Thou fool! To that « world of woe and strife, which is of marriage the effect;
and thou thy woe's own architect.

Thou fool! ThouTlt nothing find but disrespect, ill words IT the scolding dialect,
for she'll all tabor be or fife!

Then prithee go and whet thy knife!
And from this fate thyself protect, Thou fool!

(Gm your foot! #, Aaron Copland

from The Tender Land

Stomp your foot upon the floor. Throw the windows open.
Take a breath of fresh June air, and dance a-round the room.
The air is free, the night is warm, the musicTs here, and bereTs my bome.

Men must labor to be bappy, plowing fields and planting rows,
but ladies love a life thatTs easy, churning butter, milking cows.
Churning butter, milking cows, gathering eges, feeding sows,
mending, cooking, cleaning, ironing, raising families.

Ladies love their fine amusement, putting patches in a quill,

but men prefer to bend their shoulder to something that will stand when built.
Dancing ladies, making matches, playing games, singing snatches,

Romping, frisking, winking, whistling, raising families.

God's own time is the very best of times.
In him living, moving, we exist, as long as be wills.
In bim shall we die at the right time, when be wills.

Ab, Lord, teach us to remember
that our death is certain, that we might gain wisdom.

Yes, come, Lord Jesus!

Into thine bands now do I commit mry soul;
for thou bast redeemed me, Lord, thou my faithful God.

This day shalt thou-with me in paradise be.
In peace and joy do I depart

Lay a garland on her hearse of dismal yew;
Maidens, willow branches wear;
Say, she died true, ber love was false, but she was firm. :

Bring to ber your offTring, bumbly bow before her,
Raise your songs of welcome, as she comes in splendour,

Tl. Hymn to the Waters

Flowing from the firmament forth to the ocean,
Healing all in earth and air, never balting,
Indra, Lord of HeavTn formed their courses,
IndraTs mighty laws can never be broken.
Cleansing waters flow ye on, hasten and help us.

Le, in the waters, dwelleth One,

Knower of all on earth and sea,

Whose dread command no man may shun,
Varuna, sovran Lord is He.

Onward ye waters onward bie, ~
Dance in the bright beams of the sun,
Obey the ruler of the sky Who dug the path for you to

(6) TI. Hymn to Vena

Vena comes born of light,

He drives the many colourTd clouds onward
Here, where the sunlight and the waters mingle
Our songs float up and caress the newborn infant,

Vena comes.

The child of doud and mist appeareth on the ridge of the sky,
He shines on the summit of creation,
The hosts prodaim the glory of our Common Father,

Vena comes.

He hath come to the bosom of bis beloved.
Smiling on him, She beareth him to highest beavTn.
With yearning heart on thee we gaze,

O goldwingTd messenger of mighty Gods.

Wise men see bim in their libations
As the sacrifice mounts to the eternal beights,
Mingling with our solenin chant.

He erect in highest beavTn,
Clad in noble raiment,

Armd with shining weapons,
Hurling light to the farthest region,
Rejoicing in bis radiant splendour.

~your eyes show me bow to see again ike mirrors of water,
understanding all, thereTs no mystery they canTt solve "
a single glance is more than enough

your eyes see, listen, touch, speak, are beacons on the borizon
shedding light on shades of life, beyond the reach of words

so I start to read your body
pausing at every mole,
as if they were commas

as if they were periods

I love to scribble on your chest,
use the muscles on your back as lines

you and I are both page and pen

- Nimia Vicé

Beginning with a rhythmic ~heartbeatT, La Essencia de la Existencia (The Essence of
Existence), expands into a frenzy of rhythmic activity, Capturing the stirring of the heart
during the awareness of romantic awakening. The longing of desire (Deseo), the intense
heat of passion (Pasién), and the simple beauty of true love (Amor) come to life through
three Spanish poems, with the assistance of modern compositional techniques within

the traditional Spanish idiom. Believing that the essence of existence is none other than
to love, the return of the heartbeat figure, fading into the distance, reminds one of the
strong ties between the heart and the human soul. La Essencia de la Existencia was composed
specifically for che East Carolina University Women's Chorale. Mr. Maglione is currently
a graduate student working towards a M.M. in Choral Conducting Performance.
