MINUTES OF THE STAFF MEETING
Psychology Department
December 14, 1970
The Psychology Department held its December meeting in EP 104 at 4 o'clock, December
14, 1970.
All members were present except Dr. Daugherty who was absent due to illness and Dr.
Roberts and Dr. Means who had conflicting commitments.
The following items were discussed:
l. Dr. Mitchell asked that the professors write complete instructions on the
typing work they wanted the secretaries to do. This will enable the work
to be done more efficiently, quickly, and according to the wishes of each
professor.
2. Dr. Williams announced that the Ad Hoc Committee was still working on the
form that was discussed at the last meeting pertaining to the new grading
system for graduate students. Also, he stated they were still considering
the question of what "professional activities" included. He will report at
a later meeting.
3. Dr. Long moved that the grade distribution on the graduate form include only
those grades given by fulltime faculty members. Motion was seconded. Dr.
Rogers proposed an amendment to list on the form the 300G courses and the
400 level courses separately. Mrs. Harris seconded the amendment. Following
a lengthy discussion Dr. Long suggested that this voted on as a revision of
& the motion. This was approved and the motion passed with 11 in favor and
three opposed.
4. Dr. Long announced that he had checked into the European Studies Center in
the hope of including psychology as one of the disciplines to be included in
the program. If anyone is interested he invited them to discuss it with hin;
if not he was going to so inform the Director of the Program so no further
plans would be made. He explained that if a professor did feel he might be
interested it would involve living in or near the Center and acting somewhat
as a counselor. Also, he could take his wife and perhaps one child. No one
at the meeting appeared interested and Dr. Long was asked to contact the

5. Dr. Rogers reported that Dr. Pionani whe rant 1p apres nine hou in a

6. Dr. Mitchell reported on the problem of the catalog requirement that students
who take Psychology 201 or Psychology 240 cannot take Psychology 206 and vice
versa. Dr. Mitchell made a motion that this be eliminated from the catalog.
Mrs. Harris seconded the motion. Dr. Tacker amended the motion and suggested
that the following be inserted in the catalog for Psychology 201 and Psychology
240; "These courses are not open to majors."' Mrs. Harris seconded the amend-
ment. After a lengthy discussion Dr. Tacker withdrew his amendment. Follow-
ing another lengthy discussion Dr. Mitchell asked how many faculty members
felt it made any difference whether psychology majors take and receive credit
ee for all three courses--Psychology 201, 240, and 206. Five felt it did make a
difference. A vote was taken and ten were in favor of eliminating the re-
striction and five were opposed.
7. Mrs. Harris volunteered to chair a committee to look into the problem of
too many courses in the area of child, adolescence, education, and related
&S fields for the psychology majors. The following committee was assigned
to serve on this committee: Mrs. Harris, chairman, Dr. Lao, Mrs.
Stapleton, Dr. Long, and Dr. Williams.
