MINUTES OF OCTOBER STAFF MEETING
Psychology Department
October 3, 1966

The Psychology Department held its October meeting in EP 104 at 4 o'clock, October,
3, 1966.

PRESENT: Prewett, Marshall, Martoccia, Grossnickle, Sadlack, McLain, Mitchell,
Higgins, Long, Zimmerman, Williams, Burkheimer, Hedges, Graham, Dixon.

Dr. Prewett announced that Dr. Zimmerman's research proposal had been approved and
Mr. Burkheimer will be working with him on it.

Dr. Mitchell announced that the Psychology Club would meet Thursday, October 13

at 7 o'clock. He urged all professors to announce this in their classes and invite
all psychology majors and minors to join, He also announced that it is anticipated
that approval for the initiation of a Psi Chi Chapter will come through in November.

Dr. Prewett announced that the graduate handbook had received favorable comments
from the Dean of Academic Affairs and additional copies were asked for to be distri-
buted by him to other schools and departments offering a graduate program.

Dr. Prewett thanked each member for their contribution to the over-all effectiveness
of the Department. He said that their work was reflected by the superior rating of
the Department by the visiting medical team.

Dr, Prewett announced that the team to evaluate East Carolina College for university
status would probably be on campus the week of December 12. He suggested that the
staff meet with the committee. This was agreeable with the staff,

Dr. Prewett announced that the annual report was due October 15 and asked the pro-
fessors to get into the Departmental Office as soon as possible any publications
they had had accepted since the last report.

Dre Mitchell was asked to get a ruling from the President's Advisory Council on a
consistent formula for a student getting on academic probation.

Dr. Prewett announced a new course--Advanced Physiological Psychology-=412--3 hours
credite A syllabus was given to each staff member and Dr. Graham moved that the
course be adopted. After a discussion the motion passed.

Dr. Graham was asked to process this course through the proper channels and in the
proper form.

A discussion was held on a new course to be offered--Apparatus and Equipment Design--
260-=3 hours credit. Dr. Zimmerman moved that the course be adopted in principle and
that the details of just what would be covered be worked out by the Curriculum Com-
mittee. Dr. Zimmerman was asked to write a syllabus for the course and a meeting of
the Curriculum Committee would be called to consider it as soon as possible.

Dr. Prewett made a few brief remarks about the total mission of the Psychology De-
partment in terms of the over=all College program,







Mre Sadlack spoke briefly about the importance of the staff members having their
picture taken for the year book, He stressed the importance of making each depart-
ment look its best and this is one thing that can be done by each member to assist

in this. Dr. Prewett expressed his wish that each person would go over to do this as
soon as possible.

Dr. Marshall announced that she had the cards for the United Fund and anyone wishing

to contribute to please see her. All cards are to be returned to her so that she

can make a report for the Department as a wholee She further announced that she had

application forms for membership in the NEA and anyone interested could see her after
the meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 5:15.
