I. Faculty Honors: |
Dr. T. E. Long was made president-elect of the North Carolina Psychological ees
Association--to serve as president for the term 1974-75.
Dr. T. E. Long was appointed by the Governor of North Carolina to the North
Carolina Board of Examiners of Practicing Psychologists.
Dr. Dennis Roberts was on a panel at a workshop at the North Carolina
Advancement School in Winston-Salem. The workshop focused on the characteristics,
causes, and treatment of underachievement in learning.

James William East, a psychology major, was admitted to the World Campus
Afloat--Chapman College for a study voyage to ports in Africa and Asia.
David T. House, III was named to Who's Who.
Patricia Clarke and Ronald Howard were honored by the local chapter of
Phi Beta Kappa.
Ronald M. Howard graduate summa cum laude.
Jane L. Rayford Beaman graduated magna cum laude.
Monty G. Grubb graduated magna cum laude.
Karen Bumgardner was appointed to serve as Affiliate Representative to
the North Carolina Psychological Association.
Katherine Green, a graduate student, was a participant in a symposium
at the annual meeting of the Southeastern Psychological Association.
The symposium centered around the six-month internship, an integral
part of the graduate program in clinical and school psychology at East
Carolina University. 2
Ronald Howard and Mary Margaret Kelly were awarded Psi Chi Scholarships.
IV.
Grants:
-Dr. Larry W. Means was awarded $990 to support research to discover
amphetimine drugs can restore memory when the brain's retention cells
have been damaged or destroyed. The grant was from the North Carolina
United Community Services.
Miscellaneous:
Dr. Clinton R. Prewett resigned as chairman of the Department, a post
he had held for 16 years. | |
The Psychology Department's graduate program in clinical psychology was
recently recognized and described in a book "The Revolution in Professional
Training: A Review of Innovative Programs for the Training of Professional
Psychologists." This was published by the National Council on Graduate
Education in Psychology.
