Two Good Sells,

The best April fool we heard of on
the 1st was played on Dr. R. L. Carr,
the popular young dentist. It occur-
red in the afternoon. A young lady
~phoned to the dentist and told him
another lady was suffering with a
dreadful toothache and wanted him to
call at once and get that tooth out.
~He put off in haste for the house of the
~supposed patient, was met by the lady

Councilmen White and Hooker, the
two white men on the Board, tried to
havethe property tax reduced to 25
cants and poll tax to $1. They also
opposed seve.al of the special taxes but
the colored numbers being inT the ma--
jority had things their own way and
levied otaxes accordingly. Under the |
levy made the amount raised for taxes
will be larvely increased. There would
be no special objection to this if there
was a hope that the money would be
