CHRISTMAS.

Feathery flakes are falling, falling, |
_ From the skies in softest way ; 7
And between our voices calling :
oSoon it will be Christmas Day |
DonTt you know how in springtime
Wintry snows are scattered wide
Ere the lovely purple blossoms:
Dare peep from where they hide?
Soon the trees as fair as any
~Lhat elves have wreathed wi.h snow,
Wil! be planted"O! so many !
In our better homes. And lo!
Something better far than snowflakes
~Shall be hung about their green,
Candies, toys and fairytapers
Lighting up the merry scene.
And the children dancing, dancing,
Till all tired their little feet.
Shail, with half shut eyes up glancing,
Wonder: oWhy is lite so sweet:
And some tender voice shall whisper"
Flake-like falling from above:
o(Christmas is so sweet, my darling,
Just because its king is Love! |

The Greenville tobacco market has
closed for the holida,s. The season has
been marked with great success, the
sales up to this time reaching 4,509,975
pounds, This is an increase of nearly
one million pounds over last year. With
probably from 8 to 125 per cent more
tobacco than last year now in the hands
ot farmers tributary to this market, it is
not an overestimate to say that the mar-
ket will sell this year between 6,000,-
000 and 6,500,000 pounds. This is a
fine showing.

The marke} will reopen on Monday
January, 4th. The RerLecror wishes
