Mrs. Grundy Says,

That fashionable society is in process
of dissolutian.

That the time was when only the day
laborer smoked a pipe.

That golf is the best of all out-door
games for CupidTs fine work.

That there are more ways of buying

a bicycle than one.

That old ewindles in new form are
exczedingly numerous.

That a regular street fight is far bet-
ter than a fatmily quarrel,

~That modern doctors are clever giv-
ing new names to old diseases.

That impeeunious college students
are never handicapped by friends,

That education ard cramming the
memory are two different thin:s.

That often it 1s a valueless horse

wearing the most expensive harness.

Thai it is the brain made up of mush
most susceptible to hypnotism.

That geing to Europe in a crowded

steamer is an imayinary pleasure.

That justice is about the only thing
not now travelipg on a wheel."Tcren-
ty Telegram.

Ought to be Paid.

The pbysicians of Pitt county have
formulated and published resolutions,
signing their names tu them, that they
will Black List persons who are able to
pay them and will notdo it. They say
they will atsend calls for the worthy
poor who are unable to pay them, but
they wil not attend calls for persons
who do not make satisfactory arrange"
ments about whai they owe them by
the first ot January, 1897. The Re-
FLECTOR prints the resolutions passed
by the physicians as well as the names
of those signing it,

There is no class of professional men
oh earth who ought to be paid more
promptly than the faithfil physicians
of the country."Scotland Neck (om
monwealth.

The Law Violated.

Since the RerLector published last
week section 1079 of the Code, which
says thet it is unlawful tor liquor to be
given away or sold on days of advertis-
ed public speaking within two miles of
where such speakings take place, there
have been two public speakings in
Greenville and the selling of whiskey
went right on as usual = ~I'nereare sev-
eral resident magistrates here in Green-
vile, too, who have jurisdiction over
such violations. What is the need ot
having laws if they ure not io be en-
forced ?

What Willie Said.

_eveeesmnelenniees:

The minister, it was expected,
would spend the evening with
the family, and Mrs. Walliams
was most anxious that her little
boy should appear at his best.
oNow, Willie,T she said, ~Dr.
Shultz will ask you your name,
and you must tell him it is ~Wil-
lie. And he will ask you how
old you are, and then you must
say ~Five. And be will want
to know where bad little boys
go, and you must tell him ~They
go to hell.T Do you understand?
Not content with a repetition
once or twice, Mrs. Williams drill-
ed him again and again in the
answers. |

Ur. Shultz came as. expected,
and after a short conversation
with the hostess, lifted the child
on his knee and said:

oWell, my little fellow, can you
tell me your name ?

Imagine the surprise of the rey-
erend doctor when lixe a flash
came the answer:

oWillie. Five years old. Go to
hell.
